Title: Brass trigger guard
Post by: chuckwagonRN on February 17, 2010
I have a cast brass trigger guard I need to bend at the but end to get it to lay in the stock. I broke the first one I tried to hammer after heating with a propane torch. I need about 1/8th of an inch. What is the correct way to accomplish this with out the same result as before?
Thank you.

Hey Chuck, is it a sand cast or an investment cast piece? Investment cast pieces are a real bugger even if you anneal them. If it is sand cast, a bit rough and needing some serious filing is the tip off, just heat it red and dunk it in some water. Should be soft enough to bend. No hammering, just put it in a vice and flex a little at a time. Good Luck!

I am not sure. It is the Traditions trigger guard for their trapper pistol. Not a lot of sanding required it is mostly polished. I sanded the sprue off the sides of the guard and it fit better but the butt end is off just a bit and I am trying to make this gun look as nice a possible with my very limited experience. The in letting fits well if I can get that little bit on the end to bend into the stock.
