over to the dark side....................
I put on layaway a H and R .45-70 handi rifle. Just because.
Dark side? Not hardly. I've been wanting one for years. Old guy at the range uses it for his truck gun. Hand loads just a bit hotter than than the standard 405 gr. RNL Remington loads. Very accurate and not hard on the shoulder for extended shooting.
I have two of them and accurate little rifles! Deer killing machines. I lke`em! hntr hntr
If it is not a muzzleloader you have gone to the dark side.... but there is a possible solution for salvation....
What do you think of a board for discussions on firearms manufactured before 1900? would we be crowding the forum or what... just looking for some input....
Why Jim! That's a brilliant idea! I'm all for it. thmbsup
Welcome to the dark side. I get strange looks when I haul out my Pedersoli Sharps 45-70 at the range, especially when they see the cartridge. They really look when I touch off one of my 777 loaded rounds or 70 gr. of 2f Goex.
dntn Great idea,Jim.My 66 win and 73 colts would be happy again.lol

You think you get strange looks, try showing up with a 50 cal flint lock then end up doing better than some of them.
mine are both .45/70`s , I have a beautiful high wall made about 35 years back by clerke technic corp. of santa monica ,cal. and an old 1891 cadet carbine ,that i picked up at a gunshow last year at the very nice price of $299 .about as close to modern as I`ve been for many years ROFL they aint exactly cheap to shoot ,but they are fun !
So..can we count on you guys to post on the new board if we have one?

H and R goes back way to 1871 so that'd work. Actually smokeless powder was adopted by the U.S. in 1898? prior to that wasnt it all Black? Trying to remember but its been a long time since I studied any of the cartridge guns.

Forrest,
I've done it a few times. One time I was out with my CVA Frontier rifle flinter off the bench and lacked a quarter of an inch of having 3 shots in one hole at 75 yds. A fellow saw it and said he didn't know the old guns shot like that. Another time I was out with my 1851 Navy .36 cal replica. I had been shooting with the butt resting on bags at 25yds wearing contacts and I decided it was time to pack up and go home. I moved the target, a 25yd slow fire center to 10 yds., loaded all 6, and went to stand and deliver. I found my eye was tired so I switched from 2 hand to one hand, weak side and fired all 6 as fast as she dropped back on target. The fellow beside me asked if I thought I'd hit the paper and I told him if they weren't all in the black, I'd give him the gun. I brought the target back and showed him, 1 X, 2 10's 2 9's and an 8. He tried to tell me it was 3 9's but I said if he looked close, I had cut the line so it was an 8. He was really impressed when he saw the sights. He was shooting a 1911 set up for target. After handling the Colt, he asked where he could get one.
