I worked for a while as a anti terrorist instructor at Ft. Carson, CO  got to play insurgent against US Army and Air force personnel before the hit the road to Iraq/Afganastan... this is what I looked like...

Yep thats the one, dont know whys it didnt show up on the post, but thanks, I fixed it.
A lot of the southeastern folks added plumage from native swamp birds, as well as traded feathers. Look at any of the old Seminole/creek paintings and you can see that some of them are very gaudy, but gaudy was good then I think.
