Title: Hammer Off Center
Post by: k1sam on August 15, 2009
I have a 50 Cal. Great Plains Rifle that the hammer is off center to the point that the edge of the recessed hammer cup hits the side of the cap on the Nipple. Is it possible to take the hammer off and bend it an 1/8" with out snapping it into or marring it up. If anyone else has had this problem and how they solve it would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen a friend of mine heat and bend them, but I do not how much
heat as I have never done it my self. If Crow or DB decide to get out of bed maybe the tells us more.

I have had to do that several times, use heat and go slow, I have always done it with the hammer on the gun with a heat shield to protect the wood, much easier to judge how much you need to adjust the hammer.
