I have to say that I wish I was there.
Looks like you are having a good time!
I had a blast! Just got back and wanna go again! This old coot failed miserably on our planned trek through stupidity and lack of common sense....but I wanna rematch! We started from a different route head then what Jean had planned so he had no idea of what to expect...and of course I was completely in the dark. Started on a nice, gentle dirt road...which soon became a nice, gentle trail...which soon became a path from Hell! Then it got bad...a 90 degree climb on a very slippery brush encrusted mountain side. At about the 9000' point my knees gave out and started bending in both directions, plus my lungs said " no way! " and we came back down. Next day we went on a pleasant 8 mile trail walk so all was not lost. If you ever get a chance to go on a trek with Jean...a word of advise. Expect that you will need to be in the best shape of your life!...and that you will enjoy every minute of it! Jean is a great person to be with...but he is an ironman. He and his mother Judy made me feel like a member of there family and I'll never forget them.
Hey Jean...wanna try again next month?
DB
of course we can retry! and you need to post your pics! and anyone else that wants to come and play on my mountain is welcome!

what beautiful country, you guy s are so fortunate to have a place like that , we have nothing but rice fields and mosquitos. looks like you both had lots of fun ,bet the dog had a blast . crow killer the debris shelter is awesome a few years back a friend built a similar over night shelter and put his fire to close during the knight a wind shift blew sparks out and you can guess what the aged cypress did he lost all of his possessions and was lucky to get out alive in fact if he had not had his trail buddy (jumper) a 3year old jack russel he may have not. he did spend 2month in a burn clinic and hyperbaric chamber but is fine now and still says that they are the best quick shelter around. anyway thanks for the pic;s makes an old man want to go . thmbsup thmbsup
Looks & Sounds like you guys had a great time, even with the difficulties encountered... If I wasn't dead set on never setting foot in California again I'd be tempted to hook up...

brother, not all of california is bad! big bear is awsome! i walk around with a gun on my hip and nobody cares. i have 900,000 acres of forest to trek in, explore, camp, and hunt to my harts desire! oh and heres the best bit, for me thats work!
I gotta admit not all of that state is bad. I grew up in the Sacramento area which left me with a bad taste in my mouth. but up north is great country. It just costs more than my family can afford to live there. An example? We pay 405 a month in rent and that takes 2/3 of our monthly income. It would be worse in Califonia. :-\
thmbsup thmbsup Always great seeing Jeans pics and story's.Once again great.Griz
Looks like a grand time!! Great pictures!!

Doug,
That is just bad.... True .... but bad! whipping
If I had that hacksaw I would have to frame it and give it away as a travelling prize for the Postal shoot or something....
Jim
With a plaque to explain Dry Balls knack for modification and a cut off barrel piece or six, that would really be something to display!!
Doug

Awesome picture's. You two look great! Liking them boots.
I know this is an old thread, but it brought back old memories. I lived in Big Bear for 7 years.
I'm glad you brought this thread back to the top, Pete. It was good to be reminded of our founder, who no doubt is waiting for us in the next life to show us the way along the trail. I miss him very much.
