Why did I ever leave Colorado Springs??? The mountains, the rivers, the Elk, the Bears, the Tourists, the Prices... oh yeah now I remember
Heat index at the moment is 105 and we will have a high above 100 degrees every day through the weekend. Stage II water conservation has kicked in meaning we can only water the lawn one day a week according to street number. I'd venture a guess that we will loose 75% of all crops that depend on natural rain this summer. It's as bad as I've ever seen it in my lifetime.

Ha-ha! Your humidity is higher than ours, only 23% right now. ;D
Makes me recommember what my grandaddy said..."Boy, get an inside job".
Been about 90 or so here for the last few days and we have had a relative humidity of about 90 so we be sweatin big time. Thats one problem with living in the land of 10'000 lakes in the summer-- HIGH HUMIDITY and lotsa skeeters.
Voy
Having lived in the Phoenix area I can attest to the difference of the "dry" heat, with humidity as low as 4%. There's so little moisture in the air that any sweat or condensation evaporates immediately which fools you into thinking that you aren't dehydrating as quickly as you really are. Still, hot is hot and you can't mess around in such conditions no matter where you are. I just hope we get a break along with much needed rain as ASAP.
today it was 58 and raining dntn

PLEASE DRINK PLENTY OF WATER 24 HOURS PRIOR TO YOUR PICKET DUTY AND BE SURE YOU DRINK WATER DURING YOUR DUTY!
About 2:15 this afternoon it was 103° in Sam's parking lot! Official from the county airport is 99°. Wow! The humidity is only 34%. I'm sure glad it's not the normal 80 or 90%.
94 yesterday but only 85 today. About 10 to 15 degrees higher than normal. And that is in central Michigan just 20 minutes from Saginaw Bay. Just a few weeks ago we were still getting frost warnings.
It's only 101 right now, compared to yesterdays 107 it's a cake walk....... srndr

I'm about ready to go NORTH for the summer if things dont cool down around here. I am only about 15 miles from the canadian border, but we have so many lakes and rivers around here that the humidity is usually pretty high and when the temps hit 90 we are cookin.

I dont think i ever remember it being this hot in June the odd 100 degree day yes but not a string of em and not over the 100 mark either like it is now. gonna make for a miserable summer if this dont let up .. They say tomorrow thur monday we have a chance for some rain s slime one but a chance.. and it will only be 94-97 monday tuesday then it starts to climb again ...
When I was a boy, before my father went on the journey, we were out in the glades one day and it was hot. I asked him how hot it was, he said he did not know but we could find out. We had an old paddle with a metal blade on it. He laid this paddle out in the sun for some time and then put a bacon on it. in a short while he took the bacon off and fried an egg on the blade. He said that would mean it was at least 112 degreese.
We hit 104 today but it's already cooled of to 100. 20% chance of thunderstorms on Tuesday. My A/C is struggling to keep it below 80 inside. Whewwww it's hot! :P

Come on guys, you're breakin' my heart up there in the hill country. I spent the last eight years of my Air Force career on the Medina Base firing ranges outside San Antonio. 100+ days in a row at the end of June are not unusual. 120 during July and August were not unusual on the ranges. Basic trainees passing out all over the place. Hill country is pleasant compared to being donw on the flat land to the south. Put your coat on and head to Natural Bridge Caverns for a while if it gets too hot.

but I cheered her up with the idea of re landscaping the rose bed and putting in a below ground trickle water system I had drawn up... I think it will work, and keep the water under her rose plant leaves to prevent them from getting the black spots....

Here in the Blue Ridge area of Virginia it will be 82 today. I think I'll take "Rocky", my flint squirrel rifle, out to the range tomorrow. Yes, we still get some of those hot, humid days even here, but back in Ga. it was like that May through September and sometimes October! Not as "buggy" here, either. More pleasant shooting days available in the mountains.
The big ol' thermometer out back on the shed is showing 107°. The birds are really hitting the birdbath and the shallow pan I have under the air conditioner drain. Going to put a tub of water out for the deer and critters as soon as it cools down a little this afternoon.

I live high and have to go down to 5100ft to go to work and get off at 400ft. Then after rest return. Hate it when we break down in the heat and I have to walk a couple or three miles to fix things so we can get moving again. Not much fun in the winter when breakdown it on top of hill at 7300ft either. Got to love the contrast at work daily .
P.S. not a good job for anybody with ear problems.

Oh Lord Thats HOT!! today here it was only 100 which would seem like a warm spring day compared to that !!
Talked with a fella today that was working on top of some cooling towers in Corpus Christi. He had full sun and a hunnerd degrees of MOIST heat!
Like Grandaddy said after moving to this part of the country, "Boy, get an inside job".
Last year while I was working in Montana folks often asked me what the weather was like around Houston. Told 'em it was the kind of place the French used to send their criminals.
Cooling towers?? used to be my job to clean and repair them..Topock, 11mi. south of Needles was an ok job in winter, but summer!!! 108 at midnight-120 daytime- 100% hunidity inside with visable steam...20-30min shift and out to cool off.
Starting tomorrow They are forcasting triple digits temp and the heat
index form 5-8 above that In the mid west.
The day we landed in the Republic of Oman it was 142 degrees outside...They said "Its a dry heat"...I said "Its 142 degrees outside, wet or dry!"
142--not for me -Anything ovetr 121 and I'm done in.

supposed to be about the same today! and ask dryball about the heat up here, 75 degrees will fry you!
Jeans right about that...the heat may be low in numbers, but you have the effect of a much higher temperature because of more solar radiation and low moisture content...it'll fry you.
and the funny thing is its cold in the shade!
Yeah...I think Jean planned it that way to make me suffer.
9am and it's already 79 degrees..I'd better get to the range before we go up another 25!

Man oh man! How did we ever get by without air conditioning! Y'all are probably not old enough to have tried walking a sandy dirt road barefooted in the hot summertime. I guess comparatively speaking it was a little more like walking though one of those hot bed of coals you see on TV all the time. ;D
Indeed. Ya know, when I was growing up way down south in way down south florida, we didnt have no air conditioner. We had dirt roads, some times they was mud roads, or what once was coral rock. Had such hard feet that the boots they issued me in the boot camp at P.I. really, really hurt my feet!

Then they tore down and built us a new school with A/C .... We had a swamp cooler in Lubbock as the humidity was quite a bit lower than here in Sout Central Texas. In Phoenix the morning weather report included an estimate of how many degrees the swamp coolers would lower the temperature according to the time of day. I remember how the concrete would radiate heat well after the sun would go down, you could feel it rising outside at 10pm. Out there the humidity is so low that there's a mist hose outside of every business that lowered the air temp a few degrees as you walked by and you wouldn't get wet, the water evaporates too quickly. I just never thought I'd see that kind of heat here in Texas though........just how did you old farts live without A/C? slap
William back in those days you never locked the house or closed the windows. I guess we were just used to the heat from being in it all the time. I guess it's called getting acclimatized.
I spent 2-1/2 years on a ship out of Newport, RI that operated in the North Atlantic. It got very cold up there in the winter. After I got out of the Navy I spent another couple of years in Connecticut, where Jeanne was raised. Before we left up there I could go out in shirt sleeves at 30° with ease. Heck, now days I'm uncomfortable if it gets below 60°.
I did not know what air condition was until I joined the Navy in 1965, ended up with a case of walking pneumonia
Being acclimated to the heat is right. I spent many summers driving a wheat truck in kansas out in the 110 degree heat, no breeze except what came thru the open windows as you were driving down the dusty country roads. Didn't think a thing about it then.
Hey, all you have to do is saunter down to the Guadalupe or Comal and your porblem is solved. I got the Rio Bravo del Norte and it is hot.

I am the caretaker for my families two houses that are close to the Comal and I have to saunter down to the river every day to pick up the trash that the tourists see fit to dump along the banks. The situation is so bad that the city is making all the parking along the streets nearby permit only. The heat doesn't help things.
Guess I'm just lucky, only 108 today and we have a water cooler...no complaints.

I'm not complaining either ........... just came back from a nice long swim in the lake.
I feel guilty since the high here today was 79 with a stiff breeze. Going to be around 72 over the weekend. With the breeze and going on the lake fishing, it is cold enough that I take long sleeves to wear on the boat. But in 6 months it will be -25 degrees while Texans are enjoying 70's. Need rain here too but not as bad as Texas. I hear the lakes are drying up down there.
A bit unpleasant here today...112 degrees...and the air is unbreathable outside. Could be worse I guess. Could be having to climb Jeans mountain! ROFL

We got an inch of rain yesterday. I don't believe the temp got above 90° today! :D
I want to know where my global warming is, we barely hit 70 today. Supposed to get into the low 50's tonight. Pretty sad when the end of July isn't warm enough for the kids to go swimming.
It has been 100 plus for two weeks here in Central Texas. devel
it was 84 degrees today, and 42% humidity! i was dying!
rained a lil here yestarday, cloud cover was nice. Soons the clouds left it got real hot real fast.
well its suppsed to be real f'n hot up here again, mid 80's and 42% humidity, i know this don tsound hot to y'all but at 7,000ft its smoking hot, ask dennis.
Yup, the little feller is right bout that.
I agree that extremely hot or cold weather is very uncomfortable but my take on it is "God gives us hot weather to make us appreciate the cold and cold weather to make us appreciate the hot", also makes you appreciate AC and heaters.

105 on the back porch yesterday.
Y'all are welcome to come up to New York for a spell...
We are having a Canadian summer up this way, so far less than a dozen days in the 80's and rain, rain, rain. Cricks look like raging torrents of chocolate milk.
Been steamy with humidity, or as the old folks would say "It's close"...
I could stand a few straight weeks of 88 or so and NO MORE RAIN!!!
Of all the things I miss about my native Georgia, the summer weather isn't one of them. We're talking a prolonged drought in which the relative humidity is still averaging 80 - 90%, bugs so thick you can't walk without a machette and our state bird, the gnat! :-&
Rained here last week, we got two inches at our place, less over at the big ranch. Dried up fast and its still in the 100's every day. Be glad when fall gets here. Still have august to look forward to, wonder what temps will be like then?
We got nearly an inch of rain last night! Now it's only a humid 90 degrees outside, what a relief!
Been rainin here a lil, we got about 4 inches over the last two weeks. Humid but the temps havent been so killer for a couple days. Sure is better now.
