Which front sight to you like best Post or Bead? I prefer the post but not one quite as thick as the one pictured. I use a modified 6 o'clock hold. I have the exact spot I want to hit sit right on top of the post.

my tc's and my GM barrels have the bead. they cover a lot for what I desire(insert accuracy freak here!)
IF the bead were to be thinned out with a file to more of a thin blade, I would be a happier camper.
Case in point, at 75 yards, my .40 GM patterns open up due to covering the entire bull. thinned out, it would show more, and I too, like the 6 o'clock hold.
when you are shooting at hanging 3/4" pipe at 40 yards, this becomes a factor!
depends on the use of the rifle. if your going for something you can take to rondys, i would worry about being PC. if its just going to be a sport rifle for personal use, go with what you like.

I tend to favor a brass or even steel thin blade even though these old eyes sometimes have trouble picking up a good sight pattern. Second choice a post. Don,t care much for the bead even though about half my guns have them............I some times change the sights on my guns if it helps with the sight picture......The problem with brass, it works well in poor light but in bright light I cant hardly see the front sight at all. The steel sight works for me in bright light and is invisable in dim light.........Bullfrog

I carry both a SILVER and a BLACK "sharpie" marker and do my sights depending on the sun conditions.....black in the sun, silver or just brass in the woods and shaded areas. The sides are always black! wipes off with a damp finger!
Blade, not post, for me. But then my eyes are still sharp.
blade. Also like turtle sites.
keep a little bottle of whiteout handy - paints on easy wipes off easy too.
what kind/style of rear sites do y'all prefer?

My wife doesn't use White Out.:( Guess I'll have to check on Silver "Sharpie". I already have the Black "Sharpie". Wow! I just learned something today that will really help sighting the Pedersoli. The brass base of the front sight is so bright in the sunlight it's almost impossible to see the blade. I have smoked the base before but that doesn't last long at all. I just now used my Black "Sharpie" on the base. Man what a difference! I can see the blade just fine in full bright sunlight now.
Lady, I prefer a peep sight. However from what I've seen on here I'm going to have to try a full buckhorn sight. I bought the Pedersoli rifle second hand. The rifle came from the factory with a full buckhorn sight, but the guy that owned it filed the horns off. :(
blade front and buckhorn rear.

I'm putting a front sight like that on LongShanks
I hope it works out for me
I use both,
Have not had any problems with either..
i prefer peep sights as well , but of the choices i'll take a bead over a post but would rather a blade

POST ! If ya want to change color, get a small bottle of White Out or white Testors model paint. When it's dry give it a coat of Crazy glue. Ain't permanent, but stays on real well...
little jim
are we lumping post and blade in the same category?
Actually the sight picture with a post and a blade is basically the same sight picture. Just a difference in the configuration of the two.
That's the way I see it. One be skinny one be fat, both be flat..
little jim
all i'll say is you need a big target for post, where as blade is as versitile as the shooter
Post come in all different thicknesses just as do blades. I'm sorry if my photo is misleading.
wel not your photo ironwood, but i tried squirrel hunting with a .40 longrifle that had a thicker type post and it was extremely hard for me to get a head shot, but i did well with it on paper targets, i might just be used to my cheaper cva brass blade sights
Oh I understand what you are saying Backwoodsman. I think that's why TC's big ol' thick front post sight didn't go over to well.
a little of topic but what rifle is that in your siggy?
Backwoodsman, That's a 50 caliber 1-66 twist Traditions Springfield Hawken. I bought it second hand. The lady I bought it from said her husband never fired it. I think Cabelas is selling them for $269.00. I don't recommend buying one. The barrel is bent very sightly and Traditions hasn't responded to two e-mails.. >:(
