I have a Tracker II NEF 12 gauge shotgun with a 24" rifled barrel. It's almost impossible to shoot because of the recoil. I already have a NEF is 20 gauge and I'm thinking about getting a 28 gauge barrel for the Tracker II. Anyone used the 28 gauge on squirrels?
Here's the Tracker II. Anyone want to trade???

Is that one of the old Navy Arms?
if so, I used to have on choked skeet/skeet.
awesome little gun, shot skeet well and used to play the original sporting clays (woods walk style). My friend shot a 410 and I did the 28. was not a target I could not break and usually could out shoot the 12 ga boys.
28ga..... pricey to buy reloadable hulls, a breeze to reload on a mec, wads available thru the usual sources.
...Would I own another one???? You Bet!
for a 1 barrel application, I would probably opt for a modified choke, no tighter!
It's a Sile,
I have another one in 12 ga..
Great little guns.
Both 12 ga and 28 ga has a full on top/ modify on bottom..
Gentlemen If you need hulls I got about a fazillion of them and wads from 28 to 12 I bought a bunch at an estate sale and don't reload for shotguns
H&R has a barrel program for their shotguns. The new barrel would be $42.00 plus $25.00 for fitting the new barrel to your receiver and return postage. Probably cost about $10.00 to send it there. So I'm looking at about $77.00 for a new barrel. The 28 gauge barrel is 26" and modified choke. I'll have to think about this for awhile. :D
Brownells has a recoil system that fits in the buttstock .
Yeah Frank I've heard that. Mercury filled I think. The say a Limbsaver recoil pad works well too. I had the hole in the stock filled with lead balls and it still kicked the snot out of me even with the recoil pad that came on it. Well heck.. the Limbsaver recoil pad is about $20.00 and the Recoil system was $35.00. Even with postage that would come out cheaper then the 28 gauge barrel. I got the little gun for something light to tote around in the woods. With all that stuff on it plus the sling and 6 slugs it's going to be pretty heavy. I can see more thinking to do! :(
I put a limbsaver on my NEF 45-70 and it made a world of difference
I have recently bought my second 28 guage single barrel shotgun. The first was a Winchester model 370 tha tI lost in a pawn shop when things got tight financially. The last one is an Iver Johnson Champion, great shooting light weight little gun.
I haven't tried this with the IJ but with the Winchester I would dump the shot out of a shell and drop in a 535 diameter ball, worked good but I lost the gun before I had a chance to experement much.
