I only have one rifle that I didn`t make, that`s a Blue Ridge in 54. That was my favorite until recently when i made this 75 cal. smoothy.

And my favorite is split between my flintlock fowler and my underhammer, both in 62 cal.

And shooting skeet at night with the underhammer.

Nice guns! If you had to choose one...which would it be?
Ned
Thats a beauty Lenn! Tried shot with her yet?
Ned
If I had to pick just one of mine it would be the flintlock. 42" barrel and swings real natural for me. Haven't shot it much with PRB but it does all right out to 25 yds, keeping them in a 4 or 5" group. Practice and a rear sight would help but since I plan on using it for shot most of the time I won't be putting on a rear sight.
Almost forgot hdslp that I also have a .54 smoothbore barrel for my T/C Hawken. It works well with shot but want to us it mainly for PRB once the weather gets above freezing so I can stay out at the range longer.

You keep posting them and we'll keep drooooooooling over them.
My favorite smoothbore, a .58 caliber cut down fowler made by Greg Christian of MS. Light as a feather...built in August 2008 and finished to look like she has been used for many years... chrrs

I love that look Capt. Beautiful firearm sir!!
Well, my Pedersoli 20 bore howdah pistol would be my favorite, because it's my only frontstuffing smoothbore, so far. If I can't get good accuracy with my 2 TC .50 cals that had rusty bores, I'll bore them out to 20 or 12 bore. thmbsup
Who can bore out a barrel ? I'd like to have this done to some repro tubes !
Pete, someone gave me the name of a fellow that will do a rebore for you. I had his name but not real sure where it might be. I'll look and maybe in the mean time whoever gave me the name will see your request.
I would be interested in that myself Gene, got a barrel or two around here that would still be useable if bored out.
Ok here's the e-mail address to Mr. Taylor that does barrel re-boring. He got right back to me about my inquiry.

I know GM makes their .62cal..20ga smoothbores in one inch drop in barrels for the large size T/C Hawken.
But can a 1" barrel handle being bored out to a .12ga and still have enough wall thickness left?
And would it have to be rebreeched or could the .12ga boring stop just above the beveled mouth of the patent breech?
Hi everyone! My next purchase will be a smoothbore, some kind of fowler. Right now all i have is my navy arms sxs. I hunt all small game with it. i might get a 62. cal 20gauge bbl from green mtn for my hawken. later slap happy
GM .28ga Flint smoothbore barrel in a very pretty Hawken stock...

Greetings Everyone
Here is a picture of my favorite smoothies. Hard for me to choose since I love Blackpower Weapons. The top on is an original 12 gauge, and according to the markings it was made in Belguim, a real good shooter. The other was given to me by a friend of my fathers, he has since passed away but when Dad saw him he would always ask if I still had the "little smoothbore". It has taken a few squirrels and rabbits, plus cans, snakes and other things fun to shoot.

My favorite smooth bore is the one I'm having built. Haven't received it yet but that'll give me a little more time to sell off my dbl barrel 12ga percussion. The 12ga Pedersoli is beautiful and fun to shoot but it isn't flint. The new fowler is .62 and will shoot mostly ball. 38" bbl, Chambers Colonial Va. lock, figured maple stock & iron mountings.
Lets see if this one will post

nice smoothy! have you shot any roundball out of her. i've only tried shot in mine, gots some roundballs for it just aint had a chance to try it
Actually I have better luck with round ball, not to good with shot never was. Let me know what you use with shot to tighten the load up, and max yardage. My bore is .620 and I am using .600 ball with .010 patch, at 70 gr FFG. Great shooter with or without patch. If you buy a mold get a good one. I bought a "bag" mold for authenticity. it cast .600 one one side and .615 to .620 on the other, that was fun loading...Went with Lee mold ..no more trouble..
where did you get your bag mould from. mine holds a good pattern just using a regular load but there are ways to tighten them up. you could try making shot cups from post-it notes wrapped around a piece of 5/8 dowel rod,or you could have the barrel jug chocked.usually costs around a hundred bucks and isn't supposed to affect roundball accuracy.
Got the bag mold from Track of The Wolf.
I will try the shot cup.
You ever heard of putting corn meal in with shot???
i've heard of it but have never tried it myself, might be worth a try to see if it would tighten up your pattern.

"...i might get a 62. cal 20gauge bbl from green mtn for my hawken..."
FYI...GM discontinued production of both their .54cal/.28ga and .62cal/.20ga drop-in smoothbore barrels a couple years ago and last year held a $100 clearance sale to move out the few barrels they had left in inventory.
So if you're pretty sure you want one, it might be best to start routinely checking gun auctions and forum classifieds no to see if one might turn up on the used market, as there really wasn't that many of them, particularly in Flint.
