Title: Balance point wonderments ???
Post by: Razor on January 02, 2009
I hear you fellers talk about the balance point..of a rifle.... rdfce
" she shore balances gooood "
So... where is, or should, the balance point be ??  slap
Seems to me it oughta be in the palm of the i.e. left hand..???
Mebbe a wee bit back towards the butt end.  ??

Reason I is askin', my MINUTEMAN shore seems front heavy....10.75 lbs total...
She balances about 6 or 7 inches in front of where it's comfortable to hold..
Ain't ever found a female that could hold it up....

Thanks

Razor

How well a rifle balances depends on the individual, how he holds it, what kind of shooting he does, arm and back strength, barrel length and caliber. If most of your shooting is close quarters deer hunting for example you most likely will want a gun that balances as you said, near the palm of your off hand. But if you do much paper target shooting at all ranges, you probably will prefer the balance point closer to the muzzle. Just depends on what you like.

Twas a good question Ray...and I'm not the final authority by any means. You will probably get different opinions. But that's how I determine balance point.

The minute man with a 15/16" 39" barrel is indeed front heavy. Shootin from a rest its dead solid though.

Straight Oct barrels are that way.. They still shoot great, but are muzzle heavy..
