How many of our forum are women? Our statistics say one in eight are women, but we have only two or three admitting it. I think it's about time we added some boards that will appeal more to the gentler sex then we now have...what's your vote? Please explain why. We really need a good turnout on this poll folks.

Well...
How how about one kinda like "The Ladies View"
Where the ladies can post their view, re: any post ??
I think we may be missing out on valuable views and insights...
(1:8 = 12.5 o/o  ?)
Just my 2 cents worth

As we discussed this Saturday, you know my view.  I think the lades should have a section where they can post things of their own interest, what ever they want.  I'm hoping it will spark interest for them to post more.  I'm sure they can come up with topics that would be of some interest to us all.

well I'm all for it, however,,,,, we should also think about getting rid of some of the "sections" we have now. this forum is become to large, and combersome. it also suffers from duplication. basically theres to much to sift through to find anything

I think the ladies deserve a room of their own to discuss things that might not appeal to some of the rest of us...

and I must agree with Jean - we are starting to get some duplication - but on the whole the layout is great

I think the question is .......... if you provide a women's only board, will the women actually utilize it?   I really don't think so.  But I would like to be proved wrong.

I think if you ladies would find it to be more conducive to idea exchanges and conversation then by all means fire that forum up. Just be forewarned, I'll probably peek in once in a while. Who knows I may learn something!

Well I will agree the Ladies should have their own space here if they want it , cause they should have some encouraging words, and some sage advice as well, as the other gender does. Anyone who says their woman isnt their better half needs to re-evaluate their opinion of their partner!!!

I agree the women should have an area where they can do their things, yet I also feel that there may be some things they discuss in that area that could be of help to the rest of the group. I for one would like to be able to have any extra insight into women that I can get.

Been a long day- guess just tired enough to kinda say it how I feel.  This is kinda like a two sided sword,   We are or at least I'm into this mountain man thing for lack of better words-first because of Jim and second because I've always loved the historical part of our great  heritage and the critters and folklore that go with it, beside the old way of doing things. I am thinkin most of us women are also in it for the same reason, some minus the man part devel  I figure if we can hold our own in a what was/is  for the most part a man's world -we can hold our own on a chat site but on the otherhand there are somethings like directions, terms, that the good Lord just didn't put into the vocabulary part of men's brains  strpot so guess I'm game.
Do agree with Crow Killer and others, to condense some of catogories.  Mouse hope the ladies prove us wrong, I enjoy reading and learning from all the mens mistakes and conquests   vote yes  to have a ladies ?     just please don't make it pink!!

I know in Bulldog ladies case she usually only checks the board when I tell her about something I think she'll find interesting or just to check up on what I'm posting.... She has a very heavy work load right now and can't find time between nursing, being President of our American Legion Aux. unit and other things she has going...  maybe some of the others are the same way...

I can see why she needs to check on you, and the work load sounds severe...but every time she posts she enriches the forum. Maybe you can let her know she is really appreciated.

I'll let ma track record speak fer itself... slap.
I know fer a fact that I'm ALWAYS wrong when talkin to a woman  srndr, I also know thet we mere menfolk
are NOT intended ta figure'em out. That's the way it is. I say, but who am I ta say anything, I jest a man,  couch
I dare NOT say things like "give them" or 'let them' or any such thing as to imply that we (men) are in control. That's
a myth that they (women), allow us to perpetuate so thet we think we're in charge.
Pappy alwys was fond o say'n " Son, I may be the head of the family but your Mother is the neck. Remember,
whichever way the neck turns, the head will follow." He ain't been wrong yet.  srndr

Dennis  thank you for the kind words sir X0    seems to me all those words( not infuring mountain men do)  men use to describe women-eg, mean, devious, hard hearted, money hungry, manipulative etc etc. would lead you to think they never met a real woman who is kind hearted, loving, caring, tolerant (and that covers alot of territory-strange things in freezers, stinky clothes and other things!,) and last but not least she learned from her mam and grandmam that the secret to a long lasting relationship is to let the man just think he wears the pants and makes all the right decisions!
hey guys and gals all kidding aside I really do enjoy the forums and all the loads of info and stories. just wish had more time to explore them all.  I know I tend to get log winded on these but is is so nice to just relax,  chrrs I get a lot of sage advice and stories working in  hospice but this is such a nice change and I do want you all to know how much I appreciate you,  bulldog lady

Ok, I voted for Come Outta Hiding.  But then again I wasn't (hiding that is)... bunkr

I think a women's section is a good thing.  Keeps us from cluttering up other areas with all that chatter about hoop skirts and petticoats (like I would be caught dead wearing such things).

I know this is kinda silly but I don't think of myself that way...I just go out and contribute what I know as a person and I agree with Bulldog Lady that we should be able to participate on the site as a whole. That being said, I know alot of women don't feel comfortable saying their piece "in front of" men.  I don't know if they are afraid that they will be incorrect and be embarrassed or what.  I, obviously, will speak my mind whether I am correct or not. hahah!  So, I am willing to try to set up the ladies thread and see how it goes.

Heather agree, If I want to speak my piece or make an arse out of my self- that's just the way I am,  I don't care about hoopskirts and such,  as was mentioned, we are in the minority but that doesn't mean we can't offer some good suggestions, and still apprecite some of the finer artistic things in life, fine linen, china and all those things that didn't exist in the mountains devel  Serious wish more ladies would comment, sometimes we have skills that make some of these mountain chores easier, wether it be cookin, sewin, or what ever else is is these men think is so secretive.  strpot  Bulldog Lady

I don't care one way or the other about a women specific board, but I see no need at all for it to be set up so that it's hidden from the men.   What have we got to hide?  If you did that, you'd have to set up men specific boards too, and then what would I have left to read?  You don't have a men only board..... do you?
Title: Re: Women specific board
Post by: Dryball on October 27, 2009, 10:45:18 PM
No Micky..we don't. The reason being men will talk there fool heads off, whereas women need encouragement to come forward and post anything, as if they are afraid of being noticed. I know you and some others aren't this way...but we have over 40 women on this forum..how many post?

If 'in you can't hold your own or run with the boys then stay on the front porch or however you want to put it!!  Guess overlooked it was for women only!!  Come on "gals" put on your big girl panties and learn and contribute to this great forum, don't need a special secret place!!!  Bulldog (maybe should just drop lady cause lordy know I ain't one at times).  Lets all learn and share and joke but first and foremost is to further and continue the skills the mountain men and women and muzzleloaders sos not to loose them to all these new fangled ideas and ways. and we see who survives in the end devel   Bulldog?
