Title: Son In Law Rescue
Post by: Chaffa Hosa on November 11, 2008
Well a little while ago my Son In Law went to check his trail camera and change the memory card. It was just before sundown when he got there and was in the middle of changing the card when he heard a noise behind him. Apparently he had gotten between a sow and her piglets without knowing it and without any fire power. After a quick dash to a ladder stand he called me to come and run the hogs off.
Needless to say after much laughing and teasing I got loaded in the truck with my Mossberg 835 loaded with 3" slugs and my S&W 686 7 shot loaded with 160 gr hard cast solids I headed out to get him. I couldn't drive to him so had to walk a couple hundred yards. I could here the sow grunting but I couldn't get a shot, she must have smelled me or sensed some danger because all at once she and the rest ran hard as she could straight away from me. I'm still laughing about this but I bet Robbie will carry a gun now when checking trail cameras  ;D

That's a good learning experience Jerry...one reason I'm always armed in the boonies.

I don't blame your SIL for going up that ladder.  I did about the same thing once upon a time. :D  Better to be laughed at than to be patching up your legs and rump!

Anytime I'm down at the lease I usually have a Winchester Model 94 in 44 Magnum slung over my shoulder.  Even when I'm just taking photos.  Although it's not legal to have a firearm on your person while bow hunting in Texas.  After an encounter with a sow and her three pigs, while bowhunting with a 55 pound recurved, I started strapping on that ol' 44 Mag pistol.
