Title: Redbadger undergoing surgery
Post by: Red Badger on November 23, 2023
I will be undergoing surgery on my eyes to correct issues related to the virial meningitis from last July.  I am still alive and kicking.. well alive at least, but wanted to update you all.  I did get to Wol-a-roc for the fall camp but was advised by the DR. NOT to try Dripping Springs.. maybe next year.

Hopoe you all had a Happy Thanksgiving!

All went well - back to about 20 - 20 vision... now I just need the rest of my body to get back to what it used to be... LOL

Ain't that the truth.

I'd like my vision to get back to 20-20 without macular degeneration.  &) (Fat chance.)

My vision qualifies, without a doubt, as something close to "high level" lousy.  That means I can shoot okay but just can't hit anything.  hntr

I have known a few who had no excuses and still couldn't hit anything.
Fortunately my vision is still good and I can still shoot well.

Vision implants (aka Cataract style) got me back to 20/20 for all intents and purposes... I still need glasses for computer work and reading but only 1.0 magnification.

I hope to be back to shooting as soon as the body heals and I can get outside to practice - I am still spending 5 days a week at the museum and preparing to move the museum to it's new home.

Please forgive me if I inferred an actual physical resemblance to brother hotfxr or myself.  Either would certainly be an insult.

I've already done that.  We are told that in a few more billion years the sun will expand and burn the Earth to cinders and that even much later on the universe will expand and turn cold with no stars, planets or galaxies.  SO, why makes plans, think about the future, worry over anything since it will all be gone a trillion years from now.  That special hunting trip?  Forget it (unless you are able to squeeze it in before the above happens) because there won't even be a universe much less a decent guide service who can find game while floating in a vacuum.  pnic bunkr

A nagging question: What does the universe expand into???   [hmm]
Where do you have to go to take a photograph of this?  Plus, what are we looking at?? (susp)

Wow, you guys can really hijack a thread.... So to put this train BACK on the rails... I had some spare time and went to Bass Pro yesterday to look for some gear, saw the shooting range and thought I would see how I was doing... Safer than trying the holy black and actually cheaper as well!

Log story short I am happy with the results,  I spent a buck and got 4 minutes of shooting time with one of their fancy laser rifles, the first 50 cents worth was without glasses, I was having an issue seeing the front sight peg, and I scored a 300 out of 400, not to shabby since I hadn't shot at all for about 3 years... The second group was much better at 380 out of 400.  I missed 4 shots going for targets that were at the far end of the range at about a 60 degree angle from me, shots  I would have never tried with a real firearm. so I am ready to load up some BP and go outside and make some smoke... now all I need is a willing partner to hold the camera....  :mini-devil-28492:

Laser rifles, hmmm...I like that!  I haven't been shooting in well over a year.  I don't drive and can only go if someone goes with me.  I keep my membership going since I'll probably get a chance to shoot over the summer.

Ah, but drinking!  I can still drink a beer, glass of good wine and two fingers of Wild Turkey or other quality brands.  As far as anything else I can do I'll need to do some researching on that.  But I'm almost sure there's something else I can do without causing damage, injury (to myself) or upset the balance of the Universe.  BP shooting is calling me loudly.

Okay!  IIRC the ball goes in first followed by powder then a patch.  [hmm]

A few others here are like me in that they have no sense of humor.  I was born without one.  I laughed once long ago, ONCE, and that's all I've ever had in me....gone now.  I guess I should add that only a few years ago I did GRIN, but then corrected myself immediately.
