Borrowed a motorcycle trailer from my motorcycle mechanic, loaded up and hauled Bruce out to a small ranch by the coast for a workout. We were shooting across a small cannon at the hood of a car someone had thrown down the hill. Range, hmmm, about 250 to 300 yards. loaded in 2 ounces of custom cannon grind and a 14 oz minne ball looking projectile, inserted a friction match and BOOM! Hit the hillside with a huge dust cloud, only about 30yards too high. It took 5 shots until we scored a hit. To be fair, we had elevation down in 3, but windage proved elusive with one of the guys leaning over too far on one side. I even took a video or two or three, but there seems to be no way (with my limited computerlexic abilities) to post one here. That and shooting marbles (the only thing I had that would fit) with the fake flinter pirate pistol made a grand introduction to the sacred black powder dark arts. Now I have 4 impressed newbies that are calling me with questions.
All in all, a good day.
never did the marbles thing , but I had a .50 caliber smooth bore , that I used to introduce new shooters to black powder , and what I called the " home defense load " ,which was a paper tube the right size to go down the barrel , twisted and folded over at the bottom , it would be filled with finishing nails and the top like the bottom twisted and folded over . dump your powder down the barrel , a paper wad , and then the nail cartridge , at about twenty feet , the nails hit sideways , making coin slots in your target , I used a card board piece the approximate length and width of a human torso ! the new guys were generally impressed :mini-devil-28492:
