Title: Local Range Banned Muzzleloaders?
Post by: Lucky Buckeye on December 04, 2022
The police range where i live recently posted new hrs and rules for the public.. ONLY RIMFIRE AND CENTERFIRE PISTOLS. NO LONG GUNS. I guess that means I'm SOL as far as black powder guns go. I guess some smoke whiners got that started. Next closest range for me is 50 mi away...  pnic whipping

that`s not good ! where I am there are four ranges within 5 miles , so there`s always somewhere to do some shooting , plus an uncle has a 100 yard range on his farm I can use any time I want ! no lack of places to do some shooting in south central pa , and northern md !

That is definitely not good.  I am fortunate to be able to shoot back behind the barn.

I used to shoot on a private farm about 2 blocks from my home in Georgia.  Since then I've had to join rod & guns clubs to be able to shoot.  The one I now belong to is about 12 to 15 minutes away (roughly 6 to 8 miles from here.  Works out very well for me.

My range is 30 miles away and all the way across the OKC metro area. My old range in Colorado was 37 miles away but mostly highway out of town.

My muzzleloading club is 69 miles away and takes about an hour and 10 minutes to get to.

Having to drive somewhere to shoot is normal for me.

We lived in the boonies for years back in Georgia.  All I had to do was step out the back door and shoot.  Our place was crawling with canebrake rattlers and I do mean crawling.  We've had them on our porch and often they were all around me while I was shooting.  There were also three other venomous species and one, a copperhead, bit one of my dogs, "Big Dog" and she got pretty sick.  If it had been a canebrake she'd have been dead before we could get her in the house.  Snakes never scare me because I like snakes.  I would often catch one and keep it over the summer.  I released them in plenty of time to fatten up for winter - winter in Georgia is really weeny anyhow.

I have a 230 yard range about 45 yards from my front door complete with a shooting bench I built out of pressure-treated 2x4s about 25 years ago.

I also have a 90-yard swath set aside up at the hunt camp but no bench there. I do have a stout tree at 65 yards to lean against and a mat for prone shooting at 90 yds.

The closest rifle range to me is not free and is a 45 minute drive.

Used to be able to shoot in the back yard til people started putting up 'McMansions' all around me. Lost all the farms I used to hunt/shoot on due to the old farmers dying & the offspring selling out to developers who throw up another subdivision. The few farms left all have a snooty 'hunt club' on them. That leaves me with two wildlife department ranges on national forest land and both are about a 90 mile round trip from the house.
