Which they never did. Old Ironsides, the US Constitution, was built after the war and served in the War of 1812. The so-called US Navy bought or begged ships from France while all of the US commandeered ships lay in port, trapped there by the British Navy. The Bonhomme Richard was a re-commissioned French ship named in honor of Benjamin Franklin and captained by John Paul Jones. It fought one significant battle off the coast of England and was sunk.
