Title: At last
Post by: hotfxr on April 12, 2022, 11:11:38 PM
This weekend is the Sonoma Valley Muzzleloaders 2022 Spring Rendezvous. Don't know how many will show up being it's Easter Weekend, but I am heading out to spend Saturday making smoke and noise. Not going to even think about keeping score since I most likely won't be able to see the targets, but I'll have fun anyway.

CA. might not think it's safe or legal or moral to go to anything where guns will be fired, but f#%& 'em.

Well I hate to say it, but this was a letdown. It was well set up on a gorgeous ranch in a valley 20 miles from the ocean, the weather was great (outside of some night time rain, which we need so no one is complaining), and it should have been a blast. Only one problem, no people. I had already planned on only being there today to shoot the rifle and pistol trails but I was basically alone, or would have been if I actually shot something. That's right, no shooting for old Hotfxr, again. I wound up spending my time joining this club, (my old one died a few months ago) talking with the members, and helping with some novice shooters. There were maybe a dozen trailers and RVs in the camping area and most of them were working the event. There were no trader tents and of course no demonstrations. Part of today's problem is someone latched the main gate shut and it looked like it was closed up. I, being trained by Hanshi never to take no for an answer, merely opened the gate, drove on in, closing it behind me. When I informed the Pres about the gate they went ballistic and ran out to latch it open. This event ran from Thursday through tomorrow. Now some might be put off by having it over the Easter weekend, and some folks are still COVID adverse and not going out, I don't have the answer. But there is a lot of work that went into this and it's a shame hardly anyone came out.

Easter weekend is a tough time to hold events.  Locally, a charity golf tournament that was scheduled for this weekend had to be postponed for lack of participants.  Other similar events have been held recently with no issues.  Timing is everything.

Due to COVID people found out that they like to stay home. $6/gal. gas doesn't help either.

Got to agree, the $4.09 gas up here makes it hard to go anywhere acct it doesn't matter where we go we will have to pay more.....
