Title: TC Hawken Kit
Post by: topbreak on November 11, 2021, 10:32:41 PM
Recently picked up a TC Hawken kit in .54 cal for a great price. It was complete save the tang screws but I found some on line. This kit was the easiest I ever put together. Very little work needed on the inletting and the walnut stock was easy to shape with a file and sand paper. I didn't do a perfect job, still have some scratches in the brass I couldn't get out. The best part was the barrel was already blued and the walnut stock only needed a tung oil finish. Haven't worked out an accurate load yet but if its anything like my Renegade it should be a good shooter.

passed one up a couple of weeks back at a gun show here in PA , guy had a tc hawken in .50 cal  , a flintlock in near new condition , could have had it for $275 , danged good price as I`ve seen them as high as $700  !  there were a few good deals at the show , single barrel english shot gun , 12 guage dated 1858 . in shooting condition $300 , there were a couple of older custom pieces in pretty decent shape $450 to $600 . have`nt seen prices like that since 2006 ! I was tempted , but I`m trying to save as much cash as possible !

That's a great price. I have seen them listed for as high as $800 on gun broker. It is heavy duty and made to last.

You got an excellent deal, topbreak.  I'd love to have one of those kits but always seem to be "cash impaired".  [hmm]

Realizing we can't buy these TC's new anymore, what would be a present day available kit very similiar to it, in terms of quality and ease of assemblying from a kit ?
I did not mention price, as times have changed.   Thanks for any input on this.

Old thread that may have no relevance these 4 years later.  But similar imported kits have been available from places like Cabela's and DGW.
