Title: SHOW PHOTOS OF YOUR......
Post by: Hanshi on September 23, 2020
Gotta get something going here.  So post photos of your favorite...I don't know, whiskey, build (of truly anything), persona attire, best trophy (any sort), operation scar, pistol, bullet wound, arrow wound, stand, tree, flower, bug, frog, snake, girlfriend, backyard, knife, saw, hatchet, hammer or anything else.  Now this is broad enough to include everything - except moon rock pics, alien body parts or starship fragments, evidence of quantum entanglement, your handcuffs, adult leather, ahem, restraints and pics of where you bury your bodies.

OKAY NOW, LET'S GET WITH IT!

The mods may delete this but here is the doe I killed last Saturday with a bow.

(I'm going to play Hanshi here in this explanation of the shot.)
Right at sunrise on opening day I spotted this deer at 40 yards. Since it is sooo easy for me to kill a deer with an arrow  &), I decided to shoot it in the ear so there would be no wasted meat and no smelly gut shot to worry about. Sure enough, the arrow went right where I planned  ??? and she dropped right there.  ;D

Here is a picture of the snake that was posing as a dead branch and trying to snag a hummingbird off of the feeder.

The English word "politics" was derived from two Greek words:

"poly" meaning "many" and "tics" meaning "bloodsuckers".

I agree!

The snake photo and the arrowed deer are incredible!  Good response so far so keep it going!

Here's all I have worth posting, at least right now.  A 50 yard target with 8 shots from my smoothbore firing bare-ball loads of 60 grns, 75 grns and 80 grns of 3F.  Patched ball does better but I'd have no qualms about using any of the BB loads pictured here.

I could be wrong, but the second flower picture shows poppies . Again, I could be wrong as all get out. They are pretty. Deer here at my place would NEVER let them get to the flowering stage.

Thanks, Dogshirt; I think you're right.

And the other picture is one of tulips which grow in or yard.  We had reds and yellows in various places around the house.  But poppies would be nice, AHEM!  Tulips are common around the neighborhood in several colors.

Would you please share your trapping/killing tips for gophers? Bill Murray won't respond to my emails.

Seriously, recently every part of our 2 acre yard is full of mounds and tunnels. I managed to shotgun one which was digging a new tunnel when he pushed the dirt to the top. Otherwise, I have been unsuccessful. If your method is too gory for the public part of the forum, please PM me.

Thank you.

Cinch traps (From the Gopher Guy) have gotten a lot. But the most fun hunting involves high pressure water, or little black powder M80's that kill them by concussion. The biggest thing is to understand how gophers dig out their tunnels. It took me a long time to become the "Gopher King" of the west county.

A "tree hugger" tiger and a "caught-in-the-act" gopher!  Those photos are hilarious.  ROFL

Maybe I'm too far north but I haven't seen a woodchuck since I left Ga. and then in Va.  Am I correct in thinking that "gopher" is a sort of generic term for any burrowing rodents?  Chipmunks in Ga. and occasionally chucks; then lots of chucks in Va. and chipmunks.  The main rodents up here are porky pines.  No closed season for porky pines, coyotes (like Ga. and Va.) and mountain haints.

I've used pellet rifles for A LOT of rabbits, squirrels and overpopulated chipmunks in Ga.   But some of the chucks I've run across must have weighed 20 lbs. easy.

The groundhog, also known as a woodchuck, is a rodent of the family Sciuridae, belonging to the group of large ground squirrels known as marmots. It was first scientifically described by Carl Linnaeus in 1758 /// Pocket gophers, commonly referred to as just gophers, are burrowing rodents of the family Geomyidae. The roughly 35 species are all endemic to North and Central America. They are commonly known for their extensive tunneling activities and their ability to destroy farms and gardens . so chucks and gophers are two unrelated species of rodents !

They could be related to me, then.  I'm a great destroyer of gardens - and any kind of plant - but I don't have to burrow.  Give me a water pail and when I sprinkle a little water on them they DIE!  My thumb is BROWN and LETHAL.  (susp)

There are pocket gophers down South but nothing like that up here.  'Course we DO got porky pines.  Most commonly down there are woodchucks and chipmunks.  Those are about the only critters that don't carry venom.
