Well Pilgrims, it had to happen... I turned wrong about a month ago and finally broke down to see the DOC... He took one look at the x-ray and sends me to the MRI and a specialist... Long story short I go in for back surgery L-2 through L-5 maybe 6 & 7... on July 3.
The VA is covering it but he surgery is being done by a civilian here in Tulsa... Not supposed to include a fusion but we will see...
Red Badger
I wish you the best!
The surgery date is coming up fast -3 July. The faster it's done, the faster you will be healed.
Ron
Keep Blue Bird and I in formed. Prayers for a speedy recovery on the way up

Thoughts and prayers are with you. Good luck on surgery. I agree with hotfxr avoid fusion if you can. Just don't try to rush recovery.

glad the surgery went well.....Ya cant keep a Badger down Ya'll.... thmbsup
Missed this earlier due to sporadic computer fits. But thank goodness all went well for my favorite toothy mammal. I agree, fusion is the pits. Never had it done but have a fused neck as the result of severe spinal arthritis. Not a great idea to volunteer for it.
thmbsup dntn Happy to hear it. ;D
Good news indeed, hope the recovery goes well also!

Thank you all for the kind words... I like to think that maybe one or two of you actually meant them. chrrs
Seriously though, It has been a couple of weeks now and I can't tell any improvement - although the guy from the V.A. physical therapy section who got his degree from the Marquis De Sade school for therapists, says everything is looking good...
I See the Doc again next week but for right now am doing everything they tell me (to include a weight limit of 4 lbs)

Badgers have voracious appetites, so remember not to pig out and eat over 4 pounds at one sitting, &) I suspect the Buffets in your area will quite unhappy, until you are back to your old self. ROFL ROFL ROFL

Don't push it, these things take time! Prayers out that in half a year you will notice a difference!

I can empathize, oh great one. I had months of pt after each one of my two shoulder surgeries. Both were pure, unadulterated agony. Also 4 months of "hydro" pt for my spine just a few years ago. My neck is already fused (spinal arthritis) and the rest of the back is slowly following suit.
So I can understand, at least mostly, what you're going through. I have your back Wait, that didn't come out right so lets try again. My best wishes for your speedy recovery, my friend.
Well Hanshi, I wish you did have my back! pnic pnic things are not going well at all. Surgeon has left practice, I had seen his PA two weeks after the surgery and he was the one who said everything looks good... and discharged me from their care...
Now after seeing the Phys Therapist at the VA three times he and I are not so sure, lots of pain and sciatic nerve issues, I cannot stand up straight let alone walk any distance. The PT guy is going to get my primary car doc to refer me for some other tests and water therapy to see if they can figure out what is going on... As of right now, Wool-a-Roc is out of the question. I can't stand up straight to shoot let alone set up the tent.
Sorry to hear it's not going well.A friend of mine that moved to PA had similar problems. They wound up doing something like cauterizing the nerve endings and it has helped him out. In this day and age, they should be able to come up with a solution for your pain.

Just got back on after move to North Idaho. Sorry to hear about your problems/surgery. Still having back problems after 46 yr from main injury, but kind of set it aside for a while to fight aPsc. Have vert. wedge fractures starting to collapse, saw spine specialist who said he couldn't do anything for me, but if I got sharp pain, give him a call. He won't touch my spine, but will give me a referral to a more special specialist..VA still says ' not caused by original injury". Drs say differently but VA just pays for treatments I get. Good luck with healing process.
Doug
Doug thank you for the phone call it really cheered me up!
Got into water therapy at last! Yesterday was day one and I am scheduled for twice a week until October... I think it will help. I felt good after the session. Will keep everyone updated.
Jim
Yes, by all means keep us informed.
4 sessions under my belt and I feel much better ( after I sleep most of the afternoon to recover from the workout!) Therapist thinks I should only need another month of treatments

What beowulf said, um characterized!

Even better news - She told me on Monday that Friday was my last scheduled session, they are gonna give me the boot and give me exercises to do at the local YMCA pool, I had another MRI today so will see what the doctors think when I talk to them
See, you just can't keep a badger down. They are too ornery!
thmbsup Keep it up Jim....Prayers for ya
The water therapy did help my back, Badger. I did it for four months and the therapist tested my progress once a month.
I just read your first post and all those that followed. I hope that you will continue to improve and that you are able to find a great doctor to replace the one who has retired.
Keep us posted about the results.
