I went and played with my preflintlocks the other day. The matchlock is a 12 gauge and the handgonnes are .50 caliber. Don't ask if I hit anything cause then I will have to lie.
thmbsup Cool....
with a little luck and a lot of sweat and cussing , I plan on having a matchlock by fall ! have the barrel and the wood , just need to round up metal for the lock and trigger mechanism ! ya`ll wil know when I`m working on it , you`ll be able to hear the cussin ! ROFL ROFL ROFL
Cussing?? Yeh, maybe. I think this is the third lock I built to get one that works well. For something so simple it was amazingly difficult. The stock is my very first attempt and I didn't want to screw up a nice piece of wood so I made it from a chunk of Home Depot timber. Keep us posted on your effort.
pretty much the route I intend for the stock ! ROFL , been researching different lock styles , some are a lot simpler than others !
My dad worked in Saudi Arabia for years. He brought back a home-made matchlock with a tube for a barrel. The stock was like what you see in the movies with the Bedouin on a camel ... 50+ silver tacks and tassels. (susp)
I like that little matchlock, Russell.
I took the matchlock out this morning when I shot the postal targets. I managed to keep 4 on the paper at 25 yards - that is real progress for me. A front sight should probably be my next project.
