Title: My start to a collection
Post by: crazycrow on March 21, 2019, 02:45:06 AM
This is my collection so far ,

1. Invest arms 50 cal
2. american gun comp 12 gauge hammer
3. Traditions Kentucky 50 cal
4. Dart 45 cal
5. made in Spain ??? 45 cal
6. 2 Pietta  36 cal pistols

I know the shot gun isnt a muzzleloader but i only shoot black powder in it and reload my own brass shells .( and what a blast )
The traditions is a kit i bought my self for x-mass and have yet to get it finished. ( still trying to decide what to do to it )
The 45 cal made in spain was a gun show find for a cool 100 bucks ,
The dart 45 to me is a realy cool , but i cant find any info on it , but it shoots great
cva bushwacker actually belongs to my 11 yr old granddaughter
The 2 piettas are fun to shoot but still trying to figure them out
The investarms what can i say it has been a pain in my """ but i think i finally got the bugs worked out of her. hdslp
Now that it is starting to warm up here in ohio  i hope to get out to the range and really get these worked in .

Ive been sitting back and doing a lot of reading and research here on the forum and have taken a lot of the info i have found and base most of my supply purchases on that, i stocked up on goex powder , lee ball molds , caps and patches .
My wife said i went crazy buying my own x-mass this year pnic she just dosent realize im just getting started ROFL

Don't go crazy with getting more guns, use moderation.  In fact, you only need maybe 16 more to have a reasonable collection; well, okay then, perhaps we can tweak that number a bit and add 25 more.  But that should be all.  ROFL

Not ddisparaging what you have started with but now you need to stop thinking quantity and start thinking quality.

Nice, but do you have a favorite among them?

Favorite(s) can be by looks, feel or accuracy (or 1 of each!)
For example:
My favorite is my Lange .40 Lancaster flint.
My favorite hunter is my old TC Renegade.
My favorite for targets is a TC Hawken with a .40 Green Mountain drop in barrel.

;D ;D ;D

Good start on things, more range time will separate the favorites but just looking and handling them is good too.

I took another look at your pictures and noticed that one of the revolvers is brass framed. Just a reminder to keep your loads fairly light (15-20 gr) if you want to shoot it very much. The brass frame will not hold up to heavy loads but it can last a long time if you keep the loads light.

which one in the photo is the dart ? is it this one !  that is a wesson rifle , made in italy and imported by several outfits , most I`ve seen were palmetto arms ! good rifle , the originals were used by buffalo hunters and the military used them as sniper rifles !

Black powder guns are an addiction. Two thirds of my fire arms are of the black powder variety. I have 10 rifles, a dozen revolvers and several single shot pistols. I wouldn't trade or sell any of them they are way too much fun. dntn

done some digging ! and , from what I`ve found , I`d say that DART is , the name of the importer , just about anyone can import muzzleloaders whole sale and have their company name put on them, couple of examples would be cabela`s and traditions , another would be the many years defunct markwell arms .  cousin of mine got in contact with one of the italian makers back in the very early 90`s , he had a small sporting goods store in manchester MD, he was told they could supply him with hawken rifles in the style and caliber of his choice , with his company name on them for $100 a piece , but he`d have too order at least five at a time !  hope this is some help !

Those are the ones I can get to at this time.  You have remember the guns have to share the the room with the trains.

I have a couple of closets full myself. I've lost count of the exact number. My wife says I have issues. If Mongrel was still active I think I would have some more.

Since we're apparently doing a "show me yours and I'll show you mine", I'll jump in with my treasures.  I don't have that many, but what I have is...hmmm..well, right here.

here are a few missing from the photo.

These two beautiful pieces - sadly, not mine - were built by a friend who underestimates his amazing skills.  He dropped by with these two not long ago.

Ahhhh and I remember when William had none... he was a poor lost ex-cop who wandered in off the street... Look at how he has degenerated...  pnic

The top one of the two is a .50 X .46" swamped barrel.  This is my friend's deer rifle.  The bottom rifle is a .45 X 42" SMR.  He's built a few others and sold them; not sure if he "owns" any others but I'm pretty sure he must.

Oh Puuleeze!  Any more comments like that and I'll need insulin.  However, you forget that my first smoke-pole was the first of three Lyman Trade rifles and at that time I was not yet appreciative of a hand made/period correct muzzle loader vs. a factory made example.  Also, I was determined to do things that hard way and was reluctant to accept advice, two things that membership here changed.  So, any more disparaging remarks like yours, and I'll have your legs broken. fght

Beowulf, I'm also rather partial to the SMR.  #3, a poorboy, I had brass mounted just to be different; guess it's tapers and pitchforks for me now.  #4 is the correctly iron mounted .36.   pnic
