Title: Hello again, is anyone interested in Shooting Postals this season?
Post by: Blackfeet on April 30, 2018, 02:27:34 AM
Unless someone else already has something in mind, I thought we might get started now for May.
I will post directions for forwarding results if there is any interest
I thought to use the same three stages as usual to begin. Offhand and pistol at 25 yds and 50 yard bench. Keep in mind that the scoring is from the center of the hole due to the many calibers in play.

If there is enough interest we will dig around for a novelty target or two.

After more than a year without firing a shot...sounds like a good way to get back to making Smoke...

Doug

Change of plans.  Surgery yesterday and again today.  don't think I'll be shooting anytime soon.  Have to miss at least a month and more likely 2 to three.  Life just keeps happening.  Carry on guys!!!!                      this typing with only part of one hand really sucks.

I'm in, but I'll be lucky to even hit the target at 25 yards with a pistol.  It will be fun and someone has to be last.

I don't have a lot of time these days, broke ground on an 18 unit condominium, but I will try to get some shots fired.

Its going to be a fairly busy summer for me but I will plan to shoot whatever targets you choose.
Feel free to bounce any novelty target ideas my way and if I come up with any suggestions I will send them your way.

I'm in.

I'll try but we're moving in three weeks, only about 2 blocks but it's an older home, plaster & lath walls and built sometime prior to 1900. My honey do list is pretty full and between my cancer treatment side effects (my adrenal glands have shut down and I have to take hydrocortisone for the rest of my life,) weight gain from the steroids, shortness of breath, maybe steroids maybe COPD, muscle weakness,  osteoporosis, digestive problems, etc. and all the work that needs done, I'm not sure how much time I can get for fun. However, I figure that any time I have above ground is a bonus so I'll try to fit in any fun I can. My wife set up reservations so that we can go to Dixon's little doings this year and I plan to hit the Trinity while I'm in the area.

I will participate and if anyone wants to donate prizes they can send their submission to me as a pm and we will notify you of who to send the prize too upon completion of the event.

This will allow us to determine the ranking of prizes.  the first place prize will be the one receive a pm notifying me of it first the 2nd place will be the one I am told of next etc...

Of course this is predicated upon the fact that someone donates a prize...

I find that judicious applications of a framing hammer will help immensely. While it won't fix the computer, it WILL make you feel better.  :mini-devil-28492:

I went out today and fired the 25yd rifle target and the 25yd pistol target.  There was a time when I shot like an "Andy" Oakly; but no more.  Nowadays I shoot more like Don Knots.  But the good news is I kept all shots on the paper; bad news is that they didn't hit where i wanted them to - is there such a thing as "negative" scores??  If I get a chance I'll shoot them again along with the bench target.

I used that little heavy barrel .45 capgun I got from Mongrel.  I mostly used it in the past for postal shoots; but it developed trigger problems that I can no longer fix with duct tape and Gorilla Glue.  I suppose i'll just set it aside until I can get another trigger for it.  The little sucker is so darn accurate.  I'll bring one of my flintlocks to the target range for the foreseeable (stupid, I know cause how much of the future can one actually see) future instead.  But if I have to send in todays targets, I'll be almost impossible to beat for last place.  thmbsup

Well, Hanshi, I've still got you beat for last on the pistol.  I did the 25 yard rifle and pistol this morning.  The rifle wasn't too bad (not good) but I only hit the target paper 3 times with my Remington.  I'll mail the rifle but I'll try to do better with the pistol.  Planning on a range trip to do the 50 yard tomorrow.  Good thing there's no entry fees or prizes for this.

Question: Does the pistol for the shoot have to be a single-shot pistol or are revolvers allowed too?
Title: Re: Hello again, is anyone interested in Shooting Postals this season?
Post by: russell shaffer on May 16, 2018, 01:57:04 AM
My revolver shooting is on a par with a good derringer.  Don't know if it's the gun or me, but I'm leaning toward blaming the shooter.  I missed the entire target paper twice.

Did you try the 'sighting in' like I proposed to you??  Brother Doug.

I don't do to well either, but just wondered if you could find an accurate hole in your cylinder.

Use your revolver in the pistol match.

A revolver can usually be used as a pistol by loading only one chamber before going to the line. ( I have only been to one match that would not allow it and it wasn't here.)
I still don't have a pistol that can outshoot my Uberti revolver, but in the past. I have borrowed ones that can.

Russell, For the pistol I had only two (2) shots in the black and three in the white.  For the rifle all at least "touched the black" with a couple of pretty high scoring shots for an "above zero" score.  Beat that!

Well, I went to the real shooting range today.  I have a pistol target that I will mail - actually got 4 in the black.  The rifle off the bench wasn't good but it was better than terrible.  The only problem there was the SIX holes in the target.  Doug, sometime when I have lots of time I'll fire a group with each cylinder and see what happens.

Mine will be arriving soon but I hope the rain will stop so I can reshoot the pistol and shoot the bench target.  If worse comes to worst I'll have to mail in my dismal pistol and offhand targets and wince.

I'm trying to get back to the range this week.  I wait till after the weekend AR guys are done.  I've got a 25 yard rifle and a pistol ready but my 50 yard bench suffered from a senior moment and ended up with 6 holes.  I'm too CHEAP to send anything separately.  Hanshi is still not safe in our quest for last place.  As a side note, my brother, Doug, is hanging in there and struggling through the medical jungle. He is going to make it.  edit was because I pushed the wrong key again.

Are we doing this monthly?
I got to the range today because the little match I was going to go to got rained out. The targets aren't very good but I got 5 shots into each. The 25 yd rifle target looks strange because 3 shots went in the same hole and just tore up the paper real good (I'm not good enough to do that on purpose!) so I adjusted over a little too much and made 2 more holes.

strpot Last place my ___!  Looks like I'm not going to get out to shoot the bench match and reshoot the pistol and offhand targets.  It's either raining or as hot as a blackberry patch in Georgia.  noway

So I'll mail my two last place targets - GET THAT, RUSSEL, LAST PLACE - TODAY.

If you really wanted last place, just print out the targets and send them in without shooting at them. Saves you the time & powder, and of course they would look the same as if you did shoot at them.   ;D

I know it and they are pristine  rdfce.  However, it was just fun to shoot and burn powder even though I "wooshed up" a flapping breeze with my prbs - some of which came awful close to touching paper - flying all around.  Next time I'm going to have one of the good shots at the range shoot all my targets.  blah

since it is so late in the month,  and I needed to get a target entered,   I decided to send in the target I shot early in May with "Misfits"  refined sister.  The Kentucky rifle with the trashed barrel.  Even though it was raining steady,  the rifle did  put all 5 prb  on the target.   It is for the 50 yard bench.

Blackfeet,  please let me know if you received the target by email.  Thanks
