Title: Sad day
Post by: Hanshi on February 28, 2018
I don't know really where to put this, so please move it if you need to.

The past couple days have been very tough and sad for us, especially for me.  Those who know me well also know how passionate I am about dogs.  They also know about my history of clinical depression - thankfully under control with the help of meds and therapy I received years ago.  It did, however, leave me somewhat emotionally fragile; which is really neither here nor there.

Point is, we had to take one of our little doggies to the vet, yesterday, for the final goodbye.  Littlebit had a tumor removed from her throat a couple weeks ago but it was a very aggressive cancer.  Even with powerful pain meds she was suffering terribly.  Having to see her like that ripped me up inside and broke my heart.

Like some of you, this is the not the first time we've had to do this and it NEVER gets less painful.  I do tend to bond with my doggies very strongly.  I've shed so many tears and still mourn all of them and especially one little girl in particular.

I'll still try to be a jokester as this has sort of been my defense against sadness for about all my life.  But, forgive all this maudlin guilt/sadness I'm laying out here, please.  Just know that I truly empathize with those of you must go through the same thing.  Thanks.

Sorry for your loss. I know that losing a pet is like losing a family member. You have knowledge that your friend is now in a better place.

Hanshi,
Been there and done that 5 times and it doesn't get easier. Memories of her love and affection will help you through this time and won't be spoiled by time.
Sincerely,
Mark

It's tough to lose your dog. I've lost about 2 dozen since I was a kid. It never gets easier. Hang in there.

I'm truly sorry, I've been there many times and it always hurts. Even knowing that it is for the best does nothing to diminish it.

People who don't bond with dogs just don't understand. As it is I have to take one in next week, cancer has got her bad. Wwe only get them for a short amount of time, it's really not fair.

Hanshi, I know where you are coming from.  I had to put my Lab to sleep last year.  I held her in my arms as they put her to sleep crying like a baby.  I had everybody in the room balling, even the vet shed some tears.   She was more than a pet she was a member of my family.  She got me through some hard times especially the death of my son. .  I know  Raven will be the first one to come and greet me when my time comes. My thoughts and prayers will be with you my friend!!

You will be in my prayers. Went down the same raod twice last year. I sure do miss my daughters smelly long eared, turd eating little sisters but they were old and not suffering anymore.

I can fully empathize, Hanshi.
When one of our Greyhounds died, the sweetest of all that we have had, I shed many a tear. I left a counter full of wet tissues at the veteranarian's office. It is tough and is part of what we take on when we live with our dogs.
I wish you the best,
Ron

Thank you all for the nice comments.  Know that I am so sorry for those of you who will be having to say "goodbye" very soon.  My heartfelt condolences for all your sad goodbyes in the future and the ones already released to providence.  The Rainbow poem brought fresh tears but is comforting in many ways.  Tommy

Losing a friend or a family member is always hard and it doesn't matter whether they have 2 legs or 4.
Best wishes!

My condolences, sympathy and a big hug go out to you.  What's already been said I won't say again, other than it's alright to feel the way you do.

We put ourselves through this, don't we?  And then we go out and get another animal, knowing that we will have to make the ultimate decision for it , at some time.  If they have had a good life with you, that is what matters and all they ask for.

I am truly sorry to hear this.  I hope the good memories will overshadow the pain of your loss.

Both our little doggies were rescues.  Sissy was a spoiled owner surrender.  Littlebit was scheduled to be euthanized the next day.  We at least gave Littlebit a good happy life.  The pain of loss is terrible but the love and companionship they give is just too precious to avoid getting hurt.

We got a sweet card from the vet, today.  It was signed by all the office staff.  But the most treasured thing was the front of the card which had her little paw print; just like is done with human babies.
