Four of us went out this morning to enjoy the unseasonable warm and dry Oregon weather. 5 rifles and 2 pistols so we made quite a bit of smoke. Just shooting for the fun of it and to do some sighting in. Two of the rifles and one of the pistols are new so there was some experimenting. We all went home happy - that's what it's all about, right? Everyone did better than expected. Forgot to say that we were the only ones at the range - no AR'S or .338's to disturb us old guys.
Sounds like an Awesome time! thmbsup
Sounds like a good day. I usually go by myself if I'm sighting something in but bring some along when I get a chance.

That's the way it's supposed to be done. thmbsup

Especially for those of us who don't have the option (or cash) to hunt, that's what it is all about. thmbsup

That is the important thing. I remember one time going out to a very small range with only three shooting lanes. We began shooting our BP guns and then another guy sits down and brings out a 300 magnum with a BOSS suppressor. If you aren't familiar with this system, it redirects the gasses to the side and rearward to lessen the recoil and stabilize the barrel. Plus it gives anyone standing to the side of the shooter and within 30 yards a concussion. Although he would let us know when he was shooting, it was too tedious to get up and move behind him to a safe distance so we packed it in. My buddy who lived in the area had never seen anyone else at this range in the whole time he'd been there. Heck, that was nearly 20 years ago and we thought we were still young!
The range we were at has a pistol and a 200 meter rifle range side by side separated by a big dirt berm. Sometimes the pistol range can get pretty active with 9mm and such but they really aren't that loud. The rifle range goes from very slow to very busy depending on who is shooting. Several hundred yards to the north there is a 600 meter rifle range where the big boys go to play. A while back I was doing some shooting and every so often there would be a really loud concussion from the 600 range. When I was done I drove over to see what the guy was shooting and he said it was a .338 Lapua. Look it up - it is about one step down from a 50 BMG. Probably make a good 500 yard elk rifle. Or maybe half a mile. If he had been shooting by me I would have had to leave.
My cows never complain about the noise when I shoot. Sometimes it's hard to get them out of that pasture because they mill around me expecting corn.
I have a berm 230 yards downrange so I am fortunate in that I don't have to depend on the good will of other shooters to be at ease.
Glad to see you're getting out to shoot, your old guy. Whenever I'm feeling up to it, I have to work. Took 12 days of last session, then back to it again. Sure glad I wasn't conductor last 2 trips. They really had to work. I just wiggle sticks and talk on radio some times.
