Folks, forums like this live and die with member participation. No posts, no readers, no members, RIP TMOTC. This place provides valuable information on a vast array of subjects related to those who want to preserve traditional muzzleloading. Many of the members are brimming with advice, tips , and how to's to make your muzzleloading journey safer, easier, and cheaper. All you have to do is ask. Outside of a little snarkiness between a few of us (I am one of those) which is really all in good fun, honest, there is no judgement, no belittling, only concern, caring and a desire to help.
In the five years I have been hanging around, TMOTC has become a family that has quite literally saved me, picked me up during some dark times in my life, and given me several friends and brothers, none of whom I have ever met. We have lost many who have passed on or had their lives take turns that took them away from here, but we have also gained many in their place. Our founder, who passed on before I stumbled across it, shaped this forum to be a family oriented place to visit, free from any of the nastiness that can be found around the internet, where anyone can feel safe and comfortable asking just about anything pertaining to the (as I call it) Black Powder Dark Arts, and those of us indentured to moderating have tried hard to keep with Dryball's vision. But we cannot do our jobs without participation by the members. A forum is a place for discussion and sharing of, stuff. So let's get back to sharing and discussing.
AMEN! Hotfxr, you and I have hounded the membership, with help from bushways and a few others, to post, post, post. But such things as, "my foot hurts", "haven't done anything interesting", "got 1250 acres to plow before lunch", "being held hostage by two bucks", "too cold", well, you understand. Unless one lives outside, it's never too cold to post.
You know, just posting about anything is fine. Nothing wrong with a post about "I like to hunt" or simply "Lets talk guns". You and I have instigated silliness, which is fun and gets a bite here and there.
I, with your assistance, issue a challenge to all our members. Make a vow to post something twice per week, at the very least; three is even better. That should not be taxing to any of our forum brothers/sisters. Let's get going! flwa hntr
hitfxr, I did a search for Sonoma Cutrer, because I had no idea what you were posting about. BUT, since I saw what their prices are for their wines, I will stick with "Black Cat" wine, from Germany. Was good enough back in 1966 to 1969. In Germany I only drank beer or wine in the winter, with Pushkin or Ratzeputz or Russian Vodka ore Steinhager. whereas in the summer anything but wine. Got my blood too warm in the summer. Nothing tasted better in the winter than 1/4 liter CokaCola with 1/4 liter red wine with 4 shots of Vodka mixed in. MMmmmmmmmmmm.

The sad thing is they were bought by some conglomerate out of Kentucky and the corporate line says more more more. So they upped their yield and that stuff they sell now is nothing more than over priced jug wine. Good thing I don't really drink, and definitely don't drink wine.

pilgrim, did you keep any of the schwartze kat from the bottles? I drank a few bottles when I was over there from '68-'71. I learned to like a good Reisling while I was there, also Parkerbrau beer.(sp/)
USAF April '67-April '71. WE had a kiosk across the street from the mai entrace to Gbbs Kaserne, good wurst, cheap beer.
I've enjoyed some fine wine over the years, but just a few times. There's no comparison "fine" and "good drinkable" wine. I do love wine and have it for dinner on Sundays when I cook our "excellent" meal. Being on a budget, I look for wines that are "good drinkable" - I'm a "red" aficionado. Recently been drinking Chianti(s).
I also like beer. There are so many that I like that it's difficult to settle very long on any one. I drink about three beers a month. I also like good bourbon.
Due to drugs that I'm on, I drink very little; average 1 to 2 drinks per week - counting all, wine, beer and bourbon.
Good start but let's get back on GUNS! Or anything else, actually.

And, ML is actually cheaper - remember we're Traditional muzzleloading for on the cheap - in the long run. I can understand paying a couple grand for a nice flintlock or percussion; but not paying hundreds of dollars to watch multi-millionaires play a game. cuch
Now, before you all start heating up the tar and plucking chickens, I DID play football in high School. In fact I was the smallest kid on the team. But I made up for being small by being real slow. dntn
Okay, here's another turn toward the subject. my two best deer rifles. The first one is a .45 X 36" X 13/16" LL flintlock. The wood is nice and it's so very handy and shoots so well it's taken most of my flintlock deer. In making, what some erroneously call "snap shots", that type of shot has nothing snap about it. The rifle is light and handy; so when I take a quick shot it just shoulders naturally and the trigger is set while it is in motion; and as soon as it touches my shoulder it fires. The sights align perfectly, it's called "being in the zone". It makes walking/running shots quite easy. The same can be said for my smoothbore.

This is my latest, though not actually anywhere near new; and it is yet to be christened. Very nice wood with a Chambers Golden Age lock, Rice rb "B" wgt X 38". Exceedingly light, it is a sort of "hybrid" with EL & York style architecture and a 12.5" lop. Basically a "youth's" rifle - I'm a little feller. Accuracy is top notch, just hasn't taken a deer yet.
