Hello all, didn't know where to post this. planted some carrot seeds in July. last month and today plucked a couple of them out since winter is around the corner. both times the carrots are stunted. planted them using 2x6's to raise them off the ground a little. used fresh gardening dirt. made sure I watered them. any help would be appreciated. here's a pic.
Don't know much about carrots. My guess would be not the right fertilizer or not enough of it. The other thing could be you planted them too late. Root crops take a long time to mature.
Thanks, next year will try again. will try and get them in the ground sooner. was kinda busy this year.
Check the type of carrot you planted. There is a type that are short like you show. The one shown looks like it is healthy etc etc. It could be the seed you planted. Just a thought on my part. I'd eat the one shown . You would just need several to make a meal.

Carrots like sandy soil. Ours here is very heavy on the clay. I've tilled in untold amounts of organic material and it is slowly getting to look like real soil, but the last time I tried carrots they were pretty small and ugly looking. My raised beds are made with 2x10 lumber, so they are a little deeper than yours.

took a look at the packaging says they're container variety. but why do they show large size carrots on the package? next time I'm going to have to pay more attention to the packaging besides the picture. anyway the carrot was delicious. might as well yank the rest of them up since they aren't going to get any larger. I'll try planting them indoors and see what happens.
