Went out this morning with my .45 flintlock to try and find an accurate load and got the flinches all of a sudden. First shot was fine, then it hit and I couldn't even hold it on the paper at 25 yards. I finally packed it up and went home, Will try again tomorrow morning.

Flintlocks will do that to you (and me). I find myself snatching the trigger after a couple of shots. Maybe a set of blinders like horses wear would stop it?
they dont call them flinch locks for nothin ! ;D been there did that , more than once ! took me a couple of weeks to get used to the flash , but I think it might have been the rifle I was using , cva kentucky with a lock that had to have slipped through quality control ! tried cut flints and knapped , made no difference , sometimes it would go boom the first time , sometimes the fourth pnic had me all shook up ROFL but I finally beat it , and now it`s a rare occurrence , but does still happen ! but I`ve had almost 40 years to get it under control !
