Assembled and finished this rifle from a Dixie Gun Works "kit". It's made by Investarms and uses the same barrel, lock and double set triggers used on Lyman Great Plains rifles (yep, also Investarms). It is new and unfired. I pulled the breech plug, cleaned out the proofing residue and re-homed the plug with Nikal ultra hi-temp anti/seize lube, and did the same with the touch hole liner. The lock has been cleaned, oiled, lubed and fitted with a proper English black flint in a real leather flint wrap. The proud stock wood was rough rasped and sanded to meet the brass furniture. The wood is listed as beech, and I stained with LMF walnut stain, then the barrel channel and lock inlet were saturated with Hot Stuff water thin CYA to harden and seal the wood. Two wipes of warmed TOTW original linseed oil, four wipes of warmed Tru-Oil varnish to seal and protect, 0000 steel wool buffing after all oil and varnish coats.
The ramrod's belled ramming tip has been ground parallel to the ramrod - I always do this to allow the rod to be used straight up and straight down for patched ball loading so that there is no need for that awkward rod flipping around. The other end of the rod has a brass jag for cleaning.
The barrel length is 28-1/2", the barrel flats are 15/16", the LOP to the set trigger is 13-1/4" and 14-1/4" to the fire trigger, the total unloaded weight is 8lbs 10ozs.
Included is a bag of my cast .490" pure lead balls, a bag of my "Gato Feo" grease lubed patch strips, a loaded five shot hardwood ball board that I built, and a .32 bronze brush for cleaning out the patent breech's ante-chamber. Just add some powder and go shootin'!
