Title: Possible Bags
Post by: Chief55 on February 10, 2017
I like lots of you have several muzzleloaders and it can get a bit unorganized with all the different gear for these different guns. One fella suggested a possible bag for each gun. Nice idea but the bags can get real spendy. I looked in my closet and there was this camera bag. It had a handle and shoulder straps and a flap with Velcro and pockets inside. It was perfect. I looked on-line at Wal-Mart and they have lots of them that are very reasonable. No they are not traditional but lots of them would make awesome possible bags and shooting bags dirt cheap. I have got to get me some.

do what a lot of us do . check the ladies hand bags at thrift shops . quite often you`ll find one or more that can be reworked into a nice possibles bag .  or you can do what I`ve been doing since 78 , get yourself a piece of leather or heavy canvas , and make your own ! a cousin has the very first I made , and it`s still in good using condition after almost 40 years !

That's a great idea. I'll have to check that out and I know my dad has a old box that is full of old pieces of leather I might be able to make one with.

You're quite right and unless you are trying to be PC/HC (period correct/historically correct), whatever you find usable and fitting your needs will do.  I know folks who construct powder containers made of plastic, copper pipe even bamboo to hold 3-4 single charges and just put them in their pockets along with the projectiles. Shooting/cleaning patches cut from a length of material tied around a belt loop or rolled up in an old RX bottle, you name it.  This is "muzzle loading on the cheap" you know.  ;D

I picked up a leather woman's hand/shoulder bag at the thrift store.  I thought it would make a reasonable shooting bag.  but no matter what I did to it, it still looked like a, well, you know.

But it goes great with his high heeled mocs! (Sorry sensei, couldn't help myself either.)

I got a great small leather bag (purse) from a local thrift store for $3 and it worked great once I added a flap to go over the bangle in the front. It might have been even more manly if I had removed the clear beads and the teddy bears, I guess. At least the guys in the frontloaders club might have not laughed as much if I took them off. Oh well, they were laughing so much they couldn't aim and I won the shoot that weekend so I guess it worked out in the end.

I picked up some gas mask bags from Sportsman's Guide pretty cheap and use those.  Trouble with having all these bags is now you need to have a list with stuff that's common between guns or have duplicate accouterments to go in each bag.  A great excuse to pick up more neat stuff though.

I have 3 'bags' for shooting and they are each packed for what I need for a particular purpose. I have a shooting bag for my 12 ga. shotguns with wads, shot capsules, etc. I have one for my flintlock rifle with patches, balls and powder flask plus pick, flints, 4F and 3F powders and I have a belt-mounted pouch with 2 pockets for hunting with a percussion rifle.

I just grab the one I need as I go out the door.
