Title: Trekking in Canyon Creek area, the rim in AZ
Post by: beezlebob on October 18, 2016, 09:00:44 AM
Just got back from a four day trek down in the Canyon Creek area off the Young road, FS 512 in AZ. Base camp was a campground close to Canyon Creek. I hiked down the creek and spent two nights along the creek exploring and enjoying the brilliant colors. Then two nights back up to base camp at Airplane flats campground. This area was home to several families of Cattle rustlers, and a ten year war that took place in Pleasant Vallery area, which is now Young, AZ. A good friend told me about it, so I read up on it, then did some trekking to get to know this beautiful area. The creek has fish, and I caught a couple for meals. I went alone and enjoyed the peace and quiet. Saw deep, and lots of Aberts squirrels. Was a fun trip. Beautiful fall weather.

I have an  uncle last name Blevins, but so far haven't linked him to any of those involved in the Pleasant valley war. Quite s history in this area, and such a beautiful area to. I'm going back, to much fun.

Sounds like a great adventure and I wish I could do something similar. Your mention of the Abert's squirrel piqued my curiosity so I looked the critter up.

Never seen one before but maybe I'm not the only one.

That's a nice link to the Abert's squirrels. They're a lot larger than a tree squirrel, so if hunting them, ya get a lot more meat. On this trip I think I saw more squirrels than I've seen elsewhere in our forests. Usually I find them in pockets, but here they were everywhere for some reason. A very beautiful animal and fun to watch.
