found a really interesting piece on what was considered the effective range of a musket in the 17th and 18th century , only to have it turn out to be infected ! my antivirus blocked it . but best take no chances , I deleted the link !

Checked the properties. This sight is infected with a redirector virus. Your anti-virus program may be blocking it without notifying you but Avast is telling me that's what it is. Don't know where it redirects you to but it's definitely there.
The threat is a piece of JavaScript code that is inserted on bad or hacked websites. It can direct your browser to a website you don't want to go to.
You might see the detection for this threat if you visit a bad or hacked website, or if you open an email message.
First detected in 2013 most anti virus software picks it up these days, do not know if this site is harmful or not look at it at your own risk...
I tried to contact the site owner but could not get an email address to let them know they had been hacked.

How far is a musket shot? Farther than you think. Is the title of the article but the whole site had a lot of interesting information for a revolutionary war re-en-actor if I remember correctly. I used to visit it way back when ....

I just rechecked the sight, " Journal of the American Revolution ", and my virus program, McAfee Anti Virus plus, shows that the sight is OK. Maybe just a fluke that some have a problem, usually McAfee shows RED Lettering and also a pop up that gives me warning, yet nothing happen today. Or the previous day, just my 2 cents.

I read the article but Avast quarantined something.The article,while interesting, kind of reminded me of the guys that used to show up on construction sights when we dug up some bones once in a while.They could construct a whole civilization out of a few bones.I am not being critical of the authors, they did a whole lot of research and spent endless hours on the article.Yet I have always been skeptical about this sort of thing because of the proven inaccuracies in much of the written history of something as recent as WW2.If you interview 6 different people about something they were supposed to have seen,you will get 6 different stories. There is no doubt a musket ball will carry a long distance and when fired at massed troops, as was the practice back then, the chance of hitting someone is high. To hit a single person with a musket ball at distances discussed in the article would be pure luck.
properly loaded a musket is extremely accurate at 100 yards or more , if one takes the time to aim , massed fire does`nt allow that . so this one can go either way ! cousin of mine can plunk musket balls into a nine inch pie pan all day at 100 yards . but that is loading carefully and aiming ! he does the same thing with modern shotguns loaded with slugs ! I have no idea why he even owns a rifle ! ROFL

There is no such thing as a "good or best pun"they may be funny but good,no way.
Speaking as a pun rights advocate I strongly encourage any and all to exercise their first amendment rights to keep and bear puns, unrestricted by our 'gubmint! Yes there are those who like to scream that "he who lives by the pun, dies by the pun" but I say that if you outlaw puns, only outlaws will use puns, and that's just not very punny.
