Can anyone walk me thru it, what files I need, and especially how to do it right and not goof it up? Pictures would be very  helpful

If you contact Ed at Cain's outdoors in Williamstown WV, he sells a little devise that attaches to your barrel and gices you a pattern that allows you to cut dovetails pretty easily and accurately. Comes with directions.

Practice on a chunk of old bbl.    Paint top (be sure it's the top) flat bbl. with sharpie--or ?   Hold site against bbl. mark the top of dovetail width on flat. Scribe lines little smaller than width with a small square.  Now scribe a line on both oblique flats little more'n 1/16" below top flat.  Now with a sharp new hack saw blade cut a series of grooves in bbl.   Get a small square file and slow grind a smooth flat on one side.  Put smooth side against 1st cut and clean up the opening staying sq. to top flat.  Two ways--or more to make undercuts.  Triangle file with a smooth flat, goin ther and make a dovetail that way.  OR--the fun way,  With a 1/2" sharp cold chisel, put it against inside shoulder of cut and whack it a few times forging a dovetail, some clean up with a tria. file.  Paint site & try it in slot--keep filing fitting until she goes in 1/2 way, mark site so you go in same way each time.  They don't need to be very deep and the raised bumps from the hammer give kind of a nice look,  lots of old guns show the bumps.   Heres the start of a dovetail on a gun   ...Tom

srndr  I am staying out of this one, too easy. As a matter of fact, I might just spend the whole day without being a wiseacre. It could happen.

Well, I see the reclusive hermit of the Northwest is still with us. I have been leaving baited traps all over this place for you and you haven't tripped even one. I just figured you were afraid after I posted my outfit picture. It's hard to compete with that level of rugged handsomeness.   ROFL  Oh crud, I didn't even make it through one day.  hdslp
