Title: Books on Pre 1870 German Military Guns ????
Post by: Peter Stines on January 08, 2015, 04:12:54 PM
Anyone out there know of books on this subject ? I have the Neuman, Kravick and similar volumes. Need something on German military guns post Rev. War.  Especially looking for something on Potsdam marked guns.  [hmm]

Unfortunately, there's very little in English on the subject.  There's Firearms From Europe by James Whisker, Larry Yantz and Daniel Hartzler.  It covers all the percussion military guns imported during the Civil War, and has a big section on German (Prussian, Saxon, Oldenberg, etc.) guns - and a ton of pictures.

There are a number of titles in German, though, if you don't mind that.  There's Udo Vollmer's Deutsche Militar-Handfeuerwaffen in 11 volumes (nearly one for each German state pre-1870!), covering everything from 1600-1870.  There's also Militärgewehre und Pistolen der deutschen Staaten 1800-1870 by Hans-Dieter Gotz and Die preußischen Handfeuerwaffen by Arnold Wirtgen.  Some of those can be found here: http://www.waffensammler-kuratorium.de/B%FCcher.html, and I see some of them on the EvilBay for reasonable prices from time to time.

I hope that helps some!
