So I finally got out to the range after I got my newest toy, a traditions crockett rifle, a graduation present from my parents. After shooting for awhile at 25 yards with .310 balls, a ticking patch, and mink oil tallow lube i noticed the gun was shooting consistently high, left to right it shot alright, just several inches high. When I looked up how to fix this problem, everything said I'd have to replace the front blade with a taller one. Does anyone on here know where I can find a replacement blade for this rifle, or what the size of the dovetail is so I can look around to see if I can find one that fits?
You might look at fileing down the rear sight. Dont know if thats feasable in your case, but it will lower your POI.
Before doing anything, decide on what range you will take your average shot when hunting (or target shooting) and check it again. At 25 yards your ball may still be climbing towards the height of trajectory. If it is still high at the distance you will be shooting the most, then file down the rear sight or place a taller blade on your front sight .. or both.
I believe that gun has dove-tailed sights. TOTW has quite a few front sights available in various heights .. rear sights too.
