New to all this, been to 2 rondy's and had fun. But, the cobblers, beans, and corn (not to mention all the other stuff) is hard on a diabetic. I have been a type ! since I was a teenager but did not have problems with it until my late 20's after I quite competing in sports. Now I have to be careful, I guess we all should.
So, seeing that I am a fur trapper of the 30's, I need some advice in what I should be looking at. I know the basics like corn, mill, beans, and all but is there other things that are PC correct for us? I am trying to keep it as real as possible so that is in mind too. If I go hunting and on a trekk it is not so bad since more carbs are burned doing that then just sitting around camp and b.s.ing. If I could control it with shooting the bull I would be a world camp dntn
exwife is diabetic. tough to fight somedays. squash is a period food that she could eat. most summer trips was always squash and dried meat. boil it up in the kettle and add peppers if you like. she couldn't do fruit, beans or any grains specially corn.
Also keep in mind that you can only carry PC so far... if I am correct diabetes would have been a fatal condition in the time periods we re-enact... Moderation and you insulin will carry you through - and what's inside of your Lodge is no ones concern but yours.
i eat meats (not processed) cabbage, peppers , bacon, more bacon ,still more bacon. let's face it bacon is meat candy! but, i still keep my carb intake low. and just like red badger said, whats in your lodge is your concern and don't worry about the "period natzis" when it comes to your health.
;D MMMMM Bacon......proof that God does love us.....Nectar of the gods saya I. ;D
