While on the computer earlier tonight, I got really bored, waiting for the rain to cool things down. Decided to aggravate the neighbors a bit. So I took my TOY cannon outside for some LOUD fun. It is a small Kennesaw 58 cal Napoleon style signal cannon. It is fun to shoot. So I started out with an over charge and one fiber wad. Then decided to drop down to a reasonable charge of 20 gr 2f with 2- 24 guage fiber wads. WOW. After a few shots, an unmarked car parked across the street with its headlights giving away its presence. Only one neighbor would have called. We live in the country but there are other homes around. One day in the future, I want to either get or try to build a larger small scaled cannon. Have already checked into one, but....... it will shoot a soda can 300+ yards. Figure I could have fun by shooting a full can of beer to a distant neighbor, pnic causing him thinks it raining beer. ROFL ROFL
got another toy. It is a small signal cannon, actually a Mortar. has a 3 1/2" barrel in .75 caliber. Charge it with 75 gr 2F and 2- 11 guage, 1/2" thick fiber wads, tamped down very tight. use a 3" slow fuse, light and step back. VERY LOUD. I have fired wooden projectiles from this mortar, but cannot find where they landed. tried aluminum foil balls, again, cant find where they landed. Surely cant see them flying from the barrel. Will have to go to an open field with 1000 yards to shoot. I especially like firing after dark. But still a toy. BUT a fun LOUD toy.
Bulldog lady got a .45 cal mini cannon from a relitive - gonna test it out in the next few days. will get pictures, I promise wtch
Any experience with the Traditions cannons, I was interested in the larger .69 cal cannon.
No experience with the Traditions cannon. BUT that larger Napoleon Cannon is sure nice. I would suggest following the manufacturers recommendations when loading. If loaded too heavy on powder etc, it could damage to the carriage.
I stopped by Deer Creek Products (Waldron Indiana) and they had the larger Traditions Napoleon in stock in the gold color, I would perfer the silver or polished metal version but is did look nice.
In the Dixie Gun Works 2013 Catalog #162 they list different cannons, from small toy signal cannons to full size cannons. Just need to built the carriages for the cannons. Problem is, they recommend using/firing BLANK LOADS ONLY. That's no fun.
I agree, no fun just getting a bang and smoke, would want something that could load with ball or shot. I live in an area where I could shoot one without bothering the neighbors.
