There was a recent thread on primer prices, ,but I am curious what the powder prices are across the country . I picked up a 1lb Goex can of FFFg at the Bass Pro Shop in E. Peoria, Illinois. They soaked me $25 for it . (gasp) They are pretty much the only game in town for black powder within a 100 mile drive for me.
What are they charging at the bunker at Friendship? Does one have to be a registered shooter to purchase there? I'm thinking I and the wife would enjoy a visit trip this year. It has been a slew of years since I visited Friendship. I'm thinking Carl Dyer had passed on the last year I was there. Mike
Last year at friendship it was $14.00
My Club is selling it a $15.00 and I think that it went up at friendship now but I have not checked lately.
There was some kind of shortage going on and it was kinda scarce around here for a bit last summer too.
The shop were I got Goex charged $23.00 per can. That's why I ordered 25 lb case last year. Saved a whopping $225 by buy a case lot. But then cI ordered 2F, 3F and 4F also some KIK powder to try. KIK is less expensive.
The stuff does not spoil, so I am ahead of the game for atleast 1-2 years.
Even Powder Inc. is charging $23.50/pound for the 5 pound minimum, but up it to ten pounds and the price goes down to $18.30/pound. 25 or 50 pound cases bring the price down further to $14.90 however, 2f is in limited supply and 3f is out of stock. Kik is similarly priced but available at $22.50/5 pound minimum, but since that includes shipping and hazmat fee, those of you who live many miles away from the nearest store that stocks the holy black it might be cheaper to order it.
I've heard of some places charging $30 and more lately and caps are way up in price too. I've been real lucky with BP, couple of yrs. ago a man I didn't even know came over and said he'd just got married and his wife told him to get rid of the black powder and he heard I used it so gave me 14 lbs of Goex then a guy I did know came by a month or so ago and said he didn't shoot much anymore and he had a box with 20 lbs. of Goex 3F and asked what I'd give for it.
I offered $150 and he thought about it for a minute then said "could you make it $5 a lb?" I said $150 is 7.50 a lb so then he says "Oh, OK, i'll take it.
So I'm pretty well set with powder for awhile. Deadeye
$19.25 at the only gunstore that stocks it locally
the prices are getting ridiculous ! it`s not like bp is made from some rare substance they have to buy from the elves ! when I first started shooting these things I paid $4.00 a pound ! I could understand $8.00 to $10.00 a pound , but it`s getting to the point where I may have to give up shooting everything but my squirrel rifle !
The problem lies in the fact that you are not allowed by law to resell any quantity of BP, so if you buy say , 25 lbs with the intent to share, you are in violation. This needs to be done in advance. Not even sure that you can legally give it away..........
I stood by and watched modern ammo disappear. Called Powder Inc. on 3-22-13, 5 lbs Goex @ $23. a lb. but on 7/15/11 it was 13.55 a lb. This is not to bad mouth Powder Inc. which are nice people to deal with. Just that my pay is not in any way shape or form keeping up with inflation. I do not know if this is the best price. Just the easiest for me.
Just got 25 lbs FFFg from Powder Inc for $372 delivered. That is $14.88 Lb. That is not a huge increase over the
prices/dates that you stated and I do know that a large portion of the change was due to shipping costs based upon a similar order @ $362 ($14.48 per lb) a year and a half ago. I do realize that the volume buy reduces the cost but there has been very little increase in price at Powder Inc. compared to some of the other (metallic) idiocy.

Actually you are allowed to group buy, give away or share, but not resell for a profit without special licensing and a powder magazine for storeage plus lots of nitpicky recordkeeping.
There can also be local regulations that limit how much powder you can keep on hand.
I have a bit of powder here that should keep me going through this year - 1 lb of 4f that I bought for priming ( now I use 3f for everything) 1 lb of 2f, haven't even opened it, and several cans of 3f hopefully enough to last this season... I am startig to salt cash away for a case of 3f come this fall just to make sure I have enough to play with... between burning it in my guns and using in demonstrations I do tend to use a bit ... :)
Hopefully winter goes north to Canada and stays there. Cant stand the cold, snns and cant shoot more than 5 shots before hands are totally numb, and getting pneumonia is also not enjoyable. Need warm weather around 50 so I can get back to shooting. sucks getting old.
