Title: My Back Yard
Post by: Hank12 on December 14, 2012
Home on the range.  Here's where I live looking south and beyond these few houses are hundreds of square miles of open country, there's a small town to the north but East, West and south it's all open. It's the big reasons I moved here, for a shooter it's wonderful. All that country is my back yard. I'm out there shooting , at least, several times a week and sometimes every day.

Yep, Baldy, that's alfalfa so it'll be mowed and baled, that and corn are the principal crops here.  Hank

Very nice spacious back yard.  But at what elevation is this?  It almost looks like it is above the tree line.

Looks like some of the country I drove through to see my son in Provo hosp.
Didn't know Utah had such pretty country to live in till then.

Pilgrim, Elevation is 5300, high desert, a little higher is cedars, then a little higher is Aspen and Pines then about 12000 or so is the tree line. The snow covered Mts. in the background are over 13000 and that's above tree line. That pic was taken this summer, it's all brown now or maybe white since it was  snowing last time I looked out.  Hank

Just south of those few houses is this ridge, about 2000 yds. long and one of my favorite shooting spots. Rocks of any shape and size and at any distance you might want to shoot. They are dark brown but a ball makes a nice silver spot on them. It's 200 yds. from where I usually shoot to top of the ridge and any longer distance can be had shooting left or right.  I use a range finder to know the exact distance I'm shooting and learning to guess distances.  No targets to put up and take down, I always shoot offhand with just my bag and horn, it's a great place to practice. Lot's of times a rabbit will come hopping along about a 100 yds. away or so (usually right after you shoot) then your in a panic to reload before he gets away, great place.

MAN!..Now that does look nice! I'd LOVE to live there! My backyard is only 5 acres..I need to be careful when shooting that I don't hit the nieghbors house..I have st rt 33 a mile away..so I need to watch that also.
