Title: Canoe (Kanoo) gun
Post by: Hanshi on July 19, 2012
Now I do not want to stir up any arguments about the names of things; after all a name is what it is, just a name.  Anyway, after a very long thought process - a couple years, actually - I've decided to attempt my first gun build.  For this build I've chosen a kit that's challenging enough to facilitate a gun building education on my part yet something at least marginally within my ability.  For this very first attempt I've decided on a NSW canoe gun kit.  I like short, handy guns, myself being short and handy.

I already have a 38 x 20ga fowler that I've killed deer with and chased turkey with.  Now it's time for me to try my hand at building.  I'd like to hear some others thoughts on this little smoothbore - you won't hurt my feelings but please, no flaming - and any observations on the chosen kit or things to consider. hntr

Hanshi, I have no knowledge of a build, but in the July/August issue of Muzzleloader magazine, there is an article  starting on page 9 that may be of interest to you.  It talks about the  exact same Canoe gun and shooting etc.  I look forward to your posts on the build.

Build it, Shoot it, Enjoy it, and if some one does not like it. Tell them that when they start paying for your toys, then and only then can tell what to play with.

The only thing I will tell you is that we would enjoy seeing pictures of the build

I have built a few, mostly from kits, none were perfect but I was proud of them and you will be proud of yours.

The opinion of others doesn't matter. If it's something you want that's all that matters. I know a lot of people including family members who can't figure out why I like the old fashion guns other than the special deer season. It don't matter. As long as I like it that's what counts. I figure, if I've got to explain, you wouldn't understand. We've all got the bug to some extent so just let us see how it goes.  'SNTY"

I wouldn't trust myself in a canoe and I think that little gun might be too short......like me.  I did read the MM article by Mike Nesbitt and he's been very encouraging concerning the build.  I do like handy little guns.  Gotta save up the $$ for the kit first of all.  Second project will be a TVM Leman kit .54 flint.  You just can't have too many thmbsup.
