Title: Mule ear rifle
Post by: thickice on July 12, 2012, 03:34:04 PM
Many years ago, I had a "mule ear" or "side slapper" rifle, believe it was made by a man named Story.  I haven't been able to locate one now, any ideas?

Navy Arms sold a few hundred mule ear rifles 20 years ago.  I don't know that Storey is still making locks, the company was DGS Inc., 1764 South Wilson Casper WY 82601   Tel 307 237-2414  (as of May 1985)

As recently as a year or two ago, Pioneer Arms was selling side slapper locks.  http://pioneerarms.com/mule_ear_lock.html

On another muzzleloader forum about 6 months ago there was a thread with several picture of custom made mule ears.  Can't recall which off hand.

Dale Storey (DGS, Inc., 404 N. Jackson, Casper, WY 82601)
This may be his phone number 1-307-237-2414
I believe that Pioneer Arms bought Dale's patent or markets his design of the mule ear lock.  I also seem to remember someone having one made by Deer Creek but I don't think they are around anymore.  Here is a place that will make you a mule ear lock; http://www.johntaylormachine.com/53.0.html

Good luck in your quest, hope this helps.
