Title: Good deal on this old forge?
Post by: Jeremiah on June 05, 2012
Found a coal forge on Craigslist that I am thinking about getting....it is just a smallish forge with tub and electric blower and comes with a 55 gallon drum of coal.  Here is the link...is it worth $100? I could put one together myself without much problem and probably save some money...on the other hand....will I ever get around to actually doing that? And how much would I save by the time I bought a blower?

thats not a bad deal ! I paid more than that for one I used to have , and it had a hand crank blower . if you can regulate the speed of that motor that would be a plus , you want enough air not to much !

Thanks beowulf.  May have to pick it up.  Says it comes with an extra blower as well.  And if both are one speed, might be able to pick up a variable speed on down the road...

Looks a little rough to me but might work - I would wait a bit and talk to the people here at the Saltfork meeting... They are a good bunch and will help point you in the right direction - most of the guys know where to get hand cranked blowers and vices and such... The one you were looking at didn't have a tuyre just a tube down the middle

Thanks Red Badger...that was actually what I had already decided on.  Not to mention my birthday is this month and I don't want to waste it on a forge...plan is to get that flintlock...then a forge after that as it is much cheaper  :mini-devil-28492:  haha...actually may be a month or two on either one...and that's if I am lucky...
