Title: Nice Point My Son Found Recently
Post by: Jeremiah on June 05, 2012, 03:12:13 AM
Not sure if this is the place for a post like this, but it seemed to fit.  My son found this little point on a river bank a while back.  It was his first find....would have been my oldest daughters first find, except that she stepped on it and never even saw it! My son came along behind her and picked it right up!

Very nice find.  Its always great to find some old artifact,  reminds me of the Native Americans, who were here long before  us.

Nice find, it is in excellent condition.  Too bad it can't talk and tell us of it's journeys.

I always wonder how these points get where they are.  Yes, if only they could tell their tale.  The area that we found this one is a little "bay" off of a river here in N.E. Oklahoma.  On the northern side of this "bay", there was an village at some point.  A big archaeological dig was held there in 1970 and it is still a great place to hunt points.  There will be stuff washing out of the banks for years and years to come.

I live in south central pa , and if you know where to look these are rather easy to find . I have a few arrow heads and a hoe blade made from local stone , including one that the maker started on that went wrong ,so he just threw it away .  interestingly they are an entirely different style than the western arrow heads ! good place to hunt them around here is near creeks or rivers , I found mine near the Conewago and little Conewago creeks , been told that the good stuff can be found along the Susquehanna river .

Sounds like Oklahoma...they seem to be everywhere.  We spend a lot of time walking creek beds...the rivers and lakes are always good too, as are plowed fields around these areas...especially on the higher ground.  I have a knife and two axe heads that my grandfather found while building a dam back in the 50's. A few arrowheads/points...my problem is I end up giving everything away that I find...same with my metal detecting lol.  Those old silver coins and arrowheads make great Christmas gifts for the kids in the family and hopefully will spark their interest early in history, just as mine was sparked as a child.  Pretty enjoyable past time and it's always great to get the kids out to the woods for some quiet time with Dad....
