Post by: Wild Ed on January 24, 2012
Does anyone besides me use olive oil and beeswax as a lube and protectant on their firearms?   'shok'  I also use it as a wood oil, leather rub, lip balm and wind chap treatment. ET  pnic

I sometimes use beeswax mixed with neetsfoot oil for the same reasons and have used olive oil for lube.
There are a number of ways to soften the beeswax and make it useable by mixing with some kind of non-petroleum oil to soften it.

Have been using it for a long time in my revolver. Use a similar mix with some lanolin added for my BP cartridge rifles.

Has anyone ever tried castor oil instead of olive oil??

I made one batch of Beeswax/olive oil/lard patch lube this time last year and it had held up very well, does not melt in the warmer weather and doesn't seem to freeze up either. Wish I had more of an idea what the eventual mix ratio was........................................... [hmm]

might work if you boil the water out of it and just use the oil...ghee is the name...

I do and I've been known to add a bit of Murphy's oil soap to the mix.
