Title: Standard for our site
Post by: Red Badger on January 04, 2012, 04:42:01 AM
I am going to throw this out there for you guys to discuss...

should we look at a design for the site that could be made into a flag, or table tent or something so we can identify each other at events?  Would you traders put something like that in your booths?  and would some of you put something up at your Rendezvous camp to identify yourselves to other members?

I have a small forum called the FTTA. (Free Trappers & Traders Association). Primarily, it is a way for those of us in this general area to keep in touch, share info about events & plan treks & such. We have a flag with a simple design on it to easily identify each other at events. It looks like this-
(http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr223/Sheasmtn/Fttaflag-1.jpg)

It is professionally made by an outfit that does mostly maritime flags so they really stand up to the weather. It is a poly / cotton blend that passes for cotton if not looked at too closely. A minimum order of 10 was required & after shipping was a little over $17 a piece. I don't think having traders carry them will work, but selling them thru this site should be easy. What we do is wait til we have at least 10 interested parties, then put in the order, so I don't get stuck with a $170 - $200 outlay...
We used yellow because there are a number of red flags out there, (Warriors Society, Powderhorn Clan & others...) & the color is very easy to spot, even at a distance. That is important, especially at the large National events. Size is roughly 12" x 18".

Great idea,,,TMOTC over the crossed hawks,,,and stick with one color,,,our club has hats in many different colors which loses the identity from a distance idea,,,    flwa

Heck ya I'd fly that at all my club shoots and the rondies I got to. I like the crossed axe idea, maybe we should have a design contest, then the powers that be maybe vote or judge. flwa

[hmm]  crossed axes are fine but don't see the clue to muzzleloaders?   Whats wrong with the logo on our site, the muzzleloader and the initials underneath  - just my 2 cents worth.

Bulldog Lady,
Just throwing an idea out there, to stimulate some responses. I was thinking something simple. The crossed axes were staring me in the face, and it seemed like a nice idea. The axe(or tomahawk) is a universal tool in Muzzle loading, or at least to those of us who are into living a Mountain Man style of life....In Short, Just a suggestion....

I think its a good idea. But keep the design simple. It seems the designs become too crowded. Somthing along the lines of what Bulldog Lady suggests.

May  want to be careful. I do believe the NMLRA has close to the same design. I would hate to see them get their panties in a bunch...

     Just a thought and a compromise;

a crossed  flintlock muzzleloader and a Tomahawk.  Maybe a bag     All tools  traditionaly used and needed.

Personally I think the single rifle and initials would be fine -- and simple. I second the suggestion that people tend to clutter things up with too much.

I think when Badger asked about traders having them in their booths he meant a single banner or flag to show affiliation to the site, not to sell. Whether I'd display even one is iffy, at least till I upgrade to a bigger booth at Friendship. The space I have to work with is already cramped and anywhere on the walls that there's room I have pegs for rifles (which God willing one of these Shoots I'll actually have all filled &)). But if I do move into larger quarters or do the tent thing at other events, I'd happily fly a TMC flag.

I thak all of you for the resonses!  My ideas was the center logo on the site (the rifles and the words) to keep it simple.

At $17 a piece I don't think that would break the bank and would qualify as "on the Cheap" as I have seen similar flags going for $30-50.

I will PM REV for details and and if this is feasable we will figure out how to cover the costs for the initial order and have a way to reorder every so often for people who decided to get one later on....

Look for a design contest in a couple of days (the winner will get bragging rights)

Jim

Just a late in the evening idea here. How about the crossed hawk and rifle with a cent symbol under the two? After all what is cheaper than a penny??  (Okay a mil for those of us that remember such things.) Then TMOTC across the bottom. Yes I'd be glad to buy and display one whatever the design.

I know i'm new here, and don't attend any events(YET)............ BUT i think in my opinion that the crossed hawks is VERY cool and would make an awesome emblem.

New here too. But I'd like to get in on this. How about a single horizontal longrifle with a hanging bag and crossed hawks with the intials? Have the bag hang from the lock area and place the hawks under the bag with the intials below, above or in an arc or vertical down the outside edge? My 2cents ;D

Because I belong to an organization that has a standard size flag, I would be interested in maybe a small vertical banner (4-5" wide/15-18" long) that would tell others that I frequent this site.  I'd be proud to have others recognize some sort of id as a member.
