Title: Advice on Possible Rifle Purchase Needed
Post by: Wild Ed on December 23, 2011
Can some of you flintlock shooters tell me anything about the style, type, authentic, good or bad about this rifle?  All I know is it is a .45 caliber Douglas barrel in very good condition.  I have a chance to pick it up for $500.00.  Thanks, Wild Ed

Douglas barrel and Siler flintlock, and the workmanship from what I can see in the pictures appears pretty good. Assuming a decent bore (and you saying it's in "very good" condition would imply that) the gun ought to be well worth $500. More so if you've had a chance to handle it and decide you want it.

From what I can see, I think that is a more than fair price. If I were selling it, I would get more...

If the bore is good then you should buy it.

Douglas barrels were high quality barrels and it is a nice looking rifle.

The price sounds very good or in other words you could pay a lot more than that and still be getting a good deal.

Check the bore for sure,  I'm pretty sure it would bring the price in most places just as a wall hanger. If you want one get busy---it won't last long.                              RBMJS

If you are already a percussion shooter you know how to check the barrel with a patch or a bore light or both. Unless there is an unexpected problem I would not wait very long because someone else will see it and buy it.

Ed, I have and have had several Douglas barrels and a couple of Siler locks.  They all shoot well.  That gun looks to be priced for about what the parts would cost.  As others have said check the bore and if the workmanship is acceptable, looks like a deecent deal.  And a great Christmas present to your self!

Enough of a deal that I would be interested in looking at it if you pass on it.

Merry Christmas!
TC
