Title: My shooting bag
Post by: Dryball on September 25, 2008, 01:41:13 PM
Hears my bag...nothing fancy, just usable space. It's 8.5" wide by 9" long, made of chap leather, no gusset, one pocket. The straps and buckle are riveted on as I feel it's a stronger way then sewing for this purpose. The bag is what's called heart shaped.

Here is my BEAVERMAN made shooting bag. I sent him the knives, and he made the bag with the sheaths to my specifications. This is the only bag I have so far.

O.K. here is the back side.
If you look close you can see the stitching of the two inside pockets on the rear of the bag. The knife in the picture is the first knife I ever made. I have replaced it with the one in the picture above. It is a little more period appropiate looking.

I also had a matching flint wallet made to complete the package.

Yes he is! And he has a fertile imagination...which is why they all look different. If we tried making that many we'd have a lot of duplications.

First of all I usually carry a bag when I go hunting. My mom made me a denim bag when I was a young-un to carry shells and squirrels, rabbits, quail or whatever I found while hunting. She is 79 years old now and made these two cloth bags for me about two years ago when I started getting back into the M/L guns
(http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u247/jbullard1954/Acoutraments/Picture010-2.jpg)

I traded a friend on the TMA a couple of knives for these
(http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u247/jbullard1954/Acoutraments/Picture012.jpg)

Here is one my mom made and my Tom Green bobcat bag with the Blesbok powder horn from South Africa
(http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u247/jbullard1954/Acoutraments/Picture008-1.jpg)

I also have a Tom H bag in my possesion but it is for my grand daughter LuLu
(http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u247/jbullard1954/Acoutraments/Picture007-1.jpg)

The cloth camo bag has seen a lot of field time
The light brown bag is setup for 54 cal caplock and my bobcat bag is for BraveHeart
If you look in the lower right corner you can see the weeping heart with a "B" in it

Tom,

Always meant to try making a double bag...just never got around to it. Was it much more work then a single with gusset and two compartments?

ned to me it is actually simpler to make  i just dont like sewing in gussets  im thinking ranger has made a few maybe he will voice his thoughts on it. but to me it is easier ;D

Man there are alot of fantastic bags posted so far.
Title: Re: My shooting bag
Post by: Ranger on September 26, 2008, 12:58:15 PM
I'm with Tom on this one. Gussets are a straight pain in the butt to get lined up straight and keep them straight. Then there's the fact that all your crap is thrown together in one big bag. It's much easier to organize in 2 smaller compartments and you still have all the room. I also have plans for a double bag that i will post in the patern forum for folks to use. Just a note on those patterns I make, they are VERY easy to change. If you don't like the flap style, simply draw another with the same proportions. Just my thoughts...

cool turtle bag. well  i decided that  moping around all day  over  my  boy wont solve anything  he called me last night  had a good long talk turns out the new dad is a trucker/ preacher and holds services at truck stops on Sundays -Malissia has given her life to the lord also  maybe this is the reason all this happened  any way Kevin is very happy and coming home for  Christmas vac for two weeks now  that said while i was trying to find  way to pass time i watched robin doing some  cross stitch so i had her to help me make a re pro of a bag that hangs in an old  Vermont Inn  where we spent some time  the bag is 8"x10" and made from some old tapestry it has a cross stitched pea fowl on the front  with hemp web strap any way here are a few pictures of it  and thanks for all the encouragement in getting through my  problem.

Here is my BEAVERMAN made shooting bag. I sent him the knives, and he made the bag with the sheaths to my specifications. This is the only bag I have so far.

Well here are my only two bags to date:

This was made for me by one of the Tom's a year ago...

It is a single pouch with a small pocket inside...

This one I made myself out of some scrap canvas I had and a hand woven strap and beadwork Bulldog Lady helped me with...

It has a small pocket on the inside as well

I don't know; there's just something about that canvass bag that I like.  My level of craftsmanship is pretty laughable but I want to do another canvass bag myself.  I think mine will be very plain; I'm good at "plain".

PEABODY STOP! don't do it!  If you get a bag from Leathermonger you will be spoilt!  He only makes exceptional quality items...
People have been known to drool over the bags he makes...   Only get one of his bags if your going to turn around and have him send it to me..  ROFL,  I'm willing to take all the risks that a bag of his creates....  cuch

In other words He is a fine person and will do you a beautiful bag.....

Dave, thats a lead disc to weight the flap so the flap hangs down, Brian did not want a button or buckle on it, the weight helps keep the flap down when walking in the woods
