There have been a few posts on what we are doing to help the environment by collecting the lead we use after is has ben discharged from our firearms... (Hey we're on the cheap you know ROFL )
Lets see what you are using....
Here is the one I was describing in another post...

used 30 gal barrel cost = 0
scrap wood from other projects cost = 0
2 hose clamps from junk bin cost = 0
2 large bags of Rubber mulch from Lowes Home Supply cost = $16.00
I like it and have fired "Patience" into it at 25 ft with 110 gn of 3F and a 54 cal rb did not penetrate. Not sure what would happen at that range with a conical... and I am not going to find out either! I do have my LEE REAL mold and might try it at 100 yards..... thmbsup
I like that setup there. Everything you need and nothing you don't! It certainly is a way to squeeze out every possible use of your lead supply.
I like that setup Red Badger.. Easy to do and more than afordable. Heck looks like you could move it easy too! Thanks for the information.. thmbsup
Looks good...and I'm sure the rubber is lighter than sand...
I can move it easily it weighs about 50 Lb full so I can pick it up and being a 30 gal barrel it is not as awkward as a 55 gal drum.... Of course I cheat and load it into my cart to haul it and have marked the 25, 50, 75, 100, and 200 yard stations on my range... I dont walk that far anymore without some difficulty.... pnic
Thats pretty neat . I have used some of my lead at least 20 times wirh home made back stops. I"m working on moving it to the very back corner of my lot . I use it mainly for handguns but it has stopped everything fired into it. Thi includes both cartridge guns 30=06 .243 .300 mag. etc. It is intended for PRB Muzzleloaders , but I just had to proof test it .
It consists of 2 2x8 x 6 foot long , an old 32" wood door and scrap boards /plywood and enough dirt to fill it (no stones , sand is best) oh and some reclaimed drywall screws to fasten it together. Material cost=0 . Being that I live in an old railroad semi-ghost town RR ties are every where for the picking . I stackup the ties behind the trap in case we have a real bad shot and they miss the 3x6 foot face of the trap . I wouldn"t want to hit a BP agent or illeagel sneaking through the brush. Those round balls really skip when they hit the cleechy . I mostly use the backstop/bullet trap for sighting and fire testing one I"ve built or repaired. I should be able to get some photos posted soon.

Question How do you shift the lead out
As I said , normally there is only myself and kids and grand kids using it so it takes a while to build enough balls to need emptying. The target area is about 4 foot from the ground so I make certain theres a board at that height that can be unscrewed and removed. the sand pours out at that level and I sift it with a sifter made from 1/4" hardware cloth and put a new board back on the front and refill the sand that ran out.
If the holes in the target area starts to let the sand seep out too fast , I just screw a board over the area tll I"m ready to reclaim the balls. Usually get about 20 lbs of lead each time. You might think 5 or 6" of sand wouldn"t stop a ball but it sure does . II think the (soft lead) balls start to mushroom when they strike the boad and only penetrate the sand about 3".
