UPDATE. Neighbors pulled Mom out of what was left of the house. Country friends came in and have taken Mom in tow and are getting medical attention for an injured hand. All in all the best that could be expected. Thank God for good friends and neighbors. I am back at my home in the KC area. Thank you to all who lent your prayers and thanks to all who would have. The towns people will need many, many prayers still. So far 24 known dead and at least one major hospital took a direct hit.
Otter glad to hear your moms okay. I'll keep saying prayers for all to be strong during times like this.
Glad to hear it Otter!
Good news Otter! thmbsup
Prayers on the way for all the Folks that have Survived this nasty Tornado season......
And may god welcome the ones that have departed from this earth....
Otter glad to hear your mom came through with only an injured hand. My heart and prayers go out for all those in the path of that terrible storm. May he grant them peace and strength to meet the days and clean up ahead.
Hey Otter, hope all is as well as can be with your mom, keep us posted. More prayers are coming.
Drove to where my Mom is staying with my sister just across the state line in Arkansas. For having been run over by a tornado and buried by the debris Mom is in amazingly good condition, even the dog is alive. It was worth the 7 hours in the car just to actually see and hold my Mom. This whole ordeal has really pointed out to me that even a strong tough guy at times just needs his Mommy. Thank you God.

Lets all continue to pray for those folks in Missouri and tonight - Oklahoma got hit and the news states that this line of storms is headed for the Joplin,MO area. May God be Merciful.
Here is the house where Mom lived, and was found alive. Thank you God.
A few more photos. The flag needs no explanation however look at the pole. St. Johns hospital took a direct hit. My boyhood home was about a mile from Mom's house. This was a massive storm.
Have an Aunt and a Cousin each on differant sides of the family that live in Joplin they were lucky living just out of the damage path of this twister. My prayers for all who have lost loved ones in this tragic weather event !
In the past week I've spoken with so many people that have connections to the Joplin area! The number of lives that have been touched indirectly by the tornado vastly exceed what I'd have thought it might be. We are a resilient and fruitful people here in the Ozarks.
Otter somebody was watching over her.... Glad to hear she's okay...
Hey Otter, where was your Mom inside the house when it hit?
Crazell & Rocky, Yes Mom was inside, she was about to go into the hall from the family room when something pushed her down and the grandfather clock fall alongside of her. The house then fell on top of both. It is my thought that without the protection of the clock and being pushed down when and where she was I'd have been attending a funeral. BTW that clock was the prize possession of my step father and Mom kept it in proper working condition for nearly 15 years after his death. I could not agree more that somebody was watching over her. Thank you one and all for your thoughts and prayers.
My feelings are it was your step father watching out for her. He put his prized clock down there next to her to keep stuff from crushing her. Very glad she's OK. In your prayers tonight you might want to say thank you to your step father.
Otter, glad to hear your Mother came through the storm with only some minor injuries. Looking at the pictures she was a very lucky woman. Houses and material things can be replaced but Mothers can't. I agree with others that clock was put there for a purpose. My prayers continue to go out to all the victims of the storms the last few weeks.
Good to hear your Mom came through as well as she did. Others werent as lucky! I am a firefighter in Dade county just north east of Joplin and our department went down right after it hit for search and rescue operations. We worked for 24 hours straight searching through the wreckage and it is the worst thing I have ever seen. Even though the death toll is high, its hard to believe that it isnt much, much higher. Thank GOD for his protection there.
Trad Hunter is right, with the way that storm started the death toll could have been several hundred very easily. It is people like him and his co workers we owe a great debt to, because without the Emergency Response Teams responding so quickly other surely would not have survived.
Trad-hunter. I owe you a cuppa joe from my pot any time ya are in need!! Thank you for helping out.
Trad-hunter thank you for being able to do the work you do. Bless you !!!!
Thanks fellas! I was glad to be able to help out.
Hello Otter: How about an update on Mom - and the situation in Joplin, Mo. Hope all is GOOD... Tim
Here is the update on Mom. The house is literally gone. What was not blown down we have torn down and carted to the curb. All that is left is from the sub-floor down to the foundation, all of which are still useful. Mom herself is still healing both physically and mentally. Most of the wounds to her body have healed with the exception of the serious wound on her left hand. That is now healing after the wound Docs opened it up and removed a bunch of roofing debris and unkn storm debris. So far no sign of the deadly fungus infection that affected some of those wounded in the storm.
We continue to pray that Mom will open up and talk about her grief and not continue to bury it in her heart and mind where the pain will continue to fester. That however is the way her generation seems to deal with such pain and loss. Cover it up, deny it and hope the loss, pain and anger go away in time. So there is still a need for all who read this to keep Dorthy Ruestman in their prayers. Whether you call the supreme being God, the Great Healer, the Great Spirit or by another name Mom does need to receive that healing power. I think she is just too scared to open up. Just my thought as I cannot know what Mom is feeling because she is closed off for now.
Mom is going to move into a retirement community apartment near my oldest sister probably sometime this month or early next month. I've got to get cracking of refinishing some of the old furniture we salvaged from the house. Thanks for caring enough to step up and ask Tim. I know many probably want to know but might be hesitating to ask.
Bless all of you and hopefully we can share a camp some time in the future.
Will Keep all of the folks involved in that disaster on my daily prayer list. Hope Your Mom does well.
And now, on top of everything else folks have had to endure, comes this heat wave!
I really hope they get a break soon.
We are still pulling for you and your mother.
Very glad to hear your mom is healing.I'm sure one day she may talk, but it will be on her terms. The lord blessed her with a son and family who cares.. I will keep all in my prayer's and will say a little extra something for your mom. Bless you otter ,keep your head up Otter.
Physical wounds heal faster than emotional ones for most disaster victems... Keep positive and upbeat with her. Depression and the "why did I survive" mentality is a major threat for her right now. Di & I will keep her and all the Joplin survivors in our prayers!
Wanted to update all on now Mom is progressing. Drove down there yesterday and had lunch with Mom at her new home in a retirement community in Northern Arkansas. I'm glad to report that Mom has made many new friends and is walking better than she has for probably 15-20 years. Having to walk from her apartment to the dining room once a day has enforced an exercise regime we have been after Mom to pursue for, oh a decade or so. Just being around people daily is good therapy for Mom and her outlook seems to be much improved. Physically Mom has healed very well and now the spiritual healing is beginning as well. Thanks to all who have held Mom in their thoughts. Most of all thanks to God who holds Mom safely in His hands.
That sounds awesome Otter!! Maybe it was a hidden blessing in there some where.. Glad all is well.
Ron
:applause: Alllllrrright.Glad ta here she's doin well my furry friend.May the Great Spirit grant her the best of life from here on.
