Any of the blacksmiths here know how to make a tomahawk outta a railroad spike? Gonna get some coaals and try this next week.
I have done it from a ballpeen hammer, but here is a series of videos that show using a railroad spike every step of the way...

Thanks alot rev this will come in handy.
Hey rev was watching the video again, just noticed the huge burn on his right arm. Makes ya think.
Yes, I saw that. Having been known to beat steel into submission on occasion, I can say from experience the blacksmith who says he has never been burned is a damn liar... ROFL

AMEN !!!!
If you play with fire(coal), don't you always get burnt!! ROFL
Not always, but pretty regular. rdfce
well boys after watchin that video i feel inspired i better go get some aloe lotion and this weekend imma have me a new tomohawk
All ready to go and no coal. Think I'll have to either make or buy a gas forge as my major usage. Use the coal forge to get back to basic's and for small stuff, until I can find a good supply of coal.
I went to farriers college -a lot of forge work-you will be surprised at how many times your tempted, and try to grab hot iron with a bare hand!yeah a lot of burns in the learning process, everybody gets burned! After awhile we get it, but there's always ways to get burned ,remember, everything heals but your eyes, alway's protect them.
If you're real lucky your eyes can heal too...Had steel in mine from stupid move with grinder and rivets on swather. Drilling rust ring ulcers out of your eyes really sucks....daughter got hers cut in a VEE and iris popped out to plug hole and hold juice in...many special operations and she now sees almost as well with that eye as here other...had to switch to right hand shooting acct. left eye dominate is now gone...
could someone post a picture of a spikehawk they made so i can tell how good the one i make this weekend looks compared to ones others have made

Well finally got around to making another one. Was busy with the forge today. Made a spike tomahawk, 12 tent stakes, a camp axe, and a crevace tool for gold digging. ;D
not bad looking hawks there guys just wish I had the time to get back out on the forge myself been working a butt load for hours so for now guess I'll have to leave the fire work to you guys
I would ask the question; other than a war hawk, what good is a spike hawk? ???
Here is a pic of my buddy brian making his first spike hawk, I made another but its not done yet. I think we got more beer drinking done than forging.
Whew hard work. Gotta refill chrrs
Miss those days!!! Lot's of debating on what to do,heat and pound, or drink??? Show us the hawk..... chrrs
